Sold a pup and they are having problems with the dog freezing up during training. They are using a trainer that is using a E Collar.  Please give your thoughts. I dont want it to sound like my info is just because I sold the pup. I dont think E Collars should be used on such young pups for obedience training.

I can't fathom a scenario where a pup that young would need an e-collar, except potentially a dummy e-collar just to desensitize the dog for later training.

Absolutely not! If these people are in Washington or Oregon, please PM me with the pertinent information. If this turns out to be true, and NOT about some potentially life-threatening behavior (like chasing traffic, chewing electrical cords or similar that must be broken immediately for safety), I will "drop a dime" on them myself.

That is just plain wrong. WTF are they thinking. they are going to ruin this pup. Pups are sponges and love to lean at a young age and they feel so proud when they "get" it. When they are older they work because they enjoy it and enoy spending time with you. That pup will not enjoy learning.

they should put the e coloer on triner nick not the puppy at that age

Yea, I agree puppies are sponges at this stage of the game.  Should be all positive and fun......

And what on earth could they be teaching the pup at this stage of the game, that would require an e collar!

NO.

Instead of griping about the collar, why haven't any of you helped to answer the problem.

baja, kindly explain to them that the dog freezing up is a sign that the puppy does not understand what is being requested of it, or/and that the correction is too hard. I would then suggest to the people that they try and find a "different" trainer to work with the dog using motivational training, as it is more appropriate at this age.

We all answered the question quite clearly: NO.
