I really don't care if someone chooses to breed livers or not.

the only problem I have with it is the "type" of people who choose to breed them.

I know of only a couple breeders (they have blues, whites and livers)  who go as far as to do ALL OFA health checks, not just hips, test for CDA,  and they also take into consideration the working ability and temperament of the dogs long before they breed them.  they look at the conformation too.  all this before they consider the color of the dog. these breeders are active in showing their dogs in the UKC ring, herding, obed, agility.

most people I see who insist on breeding these colors are people who do not OFA, do not care about working ability or temperament issue's, and they do not care about conformation.  look on puppyfind, you will find breeders breeding livers with weak ears, or ears not even standing and many other faults.  and they aren't even testing the lines for CDA which can affect certain bloodline dilutes. they breed these dogs simply for $ and market them as "rare" or special colors.

do not breed a dog based on color alone.

absolutely - I totally agree with you.  I would guess there are many many breeders of "regular" colors that don't perform adequate health checks as well, but it should then be a matter of the "standard of breeding" rather than "breeding to standard".   I'm all for breeding with all of the available health checks.

I absolutely agree!  The people who tend to breed "whatever color" also don't tend to care a whit about health, temperament, working ability, or neves.  They are, IMO, a major part of the reason we now face so many problems with AR--their victims help fuel the  fire.

Here is another link to a picture and pedigree of a liver/tan puppy on the database

http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/415525.html.

Hope this helps others to realize that it is more common then they might think. This is intended to edjucate not humiliate anyone.

Mahon, sorry you have to see the ugly side of the dog world. Ignored calls and emails and all of that, all because of a couple off color pups. This is what I don't agree with or like. Sweeping this stuff under the carpet does nobody on either side any good. Lemme know if those magical pups change color down the road! LOL
