Edit: 'Shiloh' was Tina's kennel name for quite a few years when she was still with AKC. However, some other kennels use the name too. Eg, my bitch's grandmother is Imp Cen's Shiloh's Song. She was NOT bred by Tina's kennel, and although she does have Shiloh ancestors, they are several generations back in the pedigree.
When Tina broke with AKC, she changed her kennel name to New Zion. And yes, both New Zion and Shiloh are references to the Bible.

A biblical name would be the first turn off for me, LOL!
I'm not a purist. Don't care about bloodlines particularly. I want to see the sire and dam and the grandsire and dam if possible, and ask the right questions about hips and health. My dog's pedigrees are still in the brown envelopes they came in. I've never looked at them again.
This much I know. My sweet girl saved her brother"s life by coming quite a distance to tell my partner in his shop that her brother was drowning. He could not get out of the water. The boy was minutes from drowning - his body was so tired that when he was scooped out, he lay down for DAYS in agony from his tired muscles. He cried in anticipated pain when I merely opened the door to the room he was in. We had to put a sling under him to bring him outside to relieve himself.
That kind of smart - that kind of intuition doesn't come on a piece of paper. My beautiful, sensitive girl literally came to my partner and barked at him. He shooed her away. She would not go. She stood there and barked at him and turned to face outside of his shop. She did it several times. Her insistance made my partner (who was totally immersed in rebuilding an engine) take notice and follow her to the pool where the poor dog was struggling to keep his head above water.
She is a white shepherd. She is also a purebred German Shepherd - and although many on these boards would have her sterilized so that her color is not repeated - the breed would lose much more by not breeding her. She is a German Shepherd Dog and none of those displaying the circular reasoning for limiting the breeding of this color has made a single rational argument for the limitation.
If her health tests permit - I will breed her. Breed standard or not - that kind of smarts, that kind of intellectual bond and intuition needs to be passed on. It is a gift to the world.
Shilohs, Kings, other mixes - great pedigree, poor pedigree, white, black, big small.... purists run the risk of throwing the baby out with the bathwater.... especially when they seek to supress the discussion about the qualities of each of these animals - even if they're not "pure" German Shepherds...

" The Shiloh is NOT an AKC breed. And the Shiloh is not a GSD and ergo, most people here are not interested in all the baloney a few want to write about extolling the great qualities of their Shiloh. They make good pets and so do rocks and slugs for some. "
"I think I'll go find a forum strictly about Chevy Corvettes and start a bunch of threads on Ford Cobras."
I find it ironic that in a forum where GERMAN Shepherd Dogs are loved by all, and most have German sounding names, and many are involved in "Schutzhund" (sp?) - that you would seek to stifle discussion on anything but the "pure breed"....
When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent;
I was not a communist.
Then they locked up the social democrats,
I remained silent;
I was not a social democrat.
Then they came for the trade unionists,
I did not speak out;
I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews
I did not speak out;
I was not a Jew.
When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out for me.

I'm sure there are boards out there that discuss specifically Kings, Shilohs, etc. The vette/cobra analogy was spot on. And for the record, I have nothing against Shilohs or Kings or any other pseudo-gsd type dog under a different name. Would I own one? No, I like working dogs. I am personally all for the "White Shepherd" or swiss or whatever you want to call it being defined as a separate breed. I would rather dogs like Shilohs be their own entity than be passed off as GSDs.
That being said, Shilohs look to me like big adorable teddy bears. If the "breed" is healthy and standardized, the average pet owner is probably better off with a dog like that than a high drive working GSD that they would be in over their head with, anyway.

It's DISCUSSION for Chrissakes... it 's SUPPOSED to help us understand more...
Any honey - I do care about the breed.... just not the current standards.

Except for the Shilohs in the Pedigree Database, of course!
Di-Mar's Sheba von Shiloh http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/523483.html
Now, let's see, you take AKC registered German Shepherds. You put a little bit of malemute into the mix.. ..Sampson, the outcross, was himself a GSD/Malemute mix...breed them for a few generations....
and you somehow miraculously wind up with a dog that looks NOTHING like a GSD??
Ohhh, good one, Sue!

You've been using this board a month and want to tell everyone what we "OUGHT" to be discussing? That's fine, freedom of speech and all that. This feels akin to nailing jello to a tree.
