Two Moons

by Two Moons on 26 June 2009 - 19:06

If your interested my little female pup bitten by a Copperhead is back to normal.
I couldn't find the wound and I'm guessing she was just grazed and not fully bitten.
I'll post a picture of the viper after it thaws out.

Ohmagod!
I'm glad she's okay. A copperhead would be one of my worst nightmares!
I hope you chop the darned thing up and feed it to their mother. Nasty, nasty, nasty.
I'll probably have kicking and screaming nightmares for a week just thinking about it.
(Like the nicotine Jones isn't doing that anyway...)

Poor little Baby Puppy.

Yeah,
I'm glad too.
Glad it wasn't me even more.  I was wearing my flip flops and my toe was closer than the puppy at that moment.
Thats two snakes in as many weeks, one non-poisonous was in the house !!
Looking into buying a Mongoose...:)
At least she's back to normal, I came close to putting her down that first night.  I couldn't tell how much pain she was in.
They are five weeks old today, I have picked out the one I will be keeping I think..
The one who got bite was the first one to climb out of the kennel, happened this morning.   This is one of the things I keep track of, she's a keeper too.
Btw,  I used white-out to mark them this time..

If the pup had taken a bite with venom you definitely would have known it.

One of my dogs, who hates snakes, was bitten in the snout by a juvenile copperhead (they are easily identified by their bright lime green tip on tail)  while we were out hiking and she immediately began to swell in the face.

I always carry a sturdy walking stick and I smashed the snake to bits I was so mad.  Rushed her to the vet for numerous meds and took her home.  Steroid, benedyrl and antibiotics along with something else as I recall. She recovered fine.

If the puppy was bitten you would have had symptoms immediately.  Glad she was not harmed.

Windwalker,
They look like they are coming along fine, won't be long now hey...
I can't stand waiting for anything..lol

Tasha,
Yes there were symptoms immediately, she was lucky and didn't talk a full bite.    I was lucky too.
It was dark and a very close call.

When I get time I'll post a picture of the snake, its in my freezer with a cousin from a year ago.
Waiting for the hat band market to pick up.....:)
