Two Moons

by Two Moons on 06 June 2009 - 02:06

Its not worth arguing over for me Sam, or any of you.
Thats why we have separation of church and state and a Supreme court.
Bitch about it all you like, until the law of the land is changed it stands as it is...   Murdering doctors isn't going to solve anything either is it?
Keep your ten commandments, no one pays any attention to tho shalt not kill so why bother with any of the rest .
I don't believe in your God, and I'm not bound in my life by your beliefs.   I have my own beliefs and rules.
I obey the law, thats enough for me.
Stay out of my personal life and mind your own family.
Your not my keeper.

tho shalt not kill  is a bad translation

the true translation is    thou shall not murder.........

think about it a while,,,,,,,,,,changes perspective on a whole lot of things.

I said you have a right to your opinion, Two Moons. What's to argue over about that? And the actual commandment is "Thou shalt not murder" , which is why killing in self defense is justifiable. Whether you like it or not, our US law is based on Judeo-Christian law as it evolved into English common law.  The guy that murdered the abortion doctor will likely be convicted of murder in the first degree and pay the penalty (unless he's mentally incompetent), so I wouldn't say nobody pays attention to the law. And I know nothing about your personal life and that's the way I like it.

I usually don't respond to these threads on this board, but life and death issues are important. They determine what kind of society we will be and I've thought about them a lot.

I find it very interesting that the mainstream media went nuts over this abortion doctor killing, but when an Islamic terrorist shot down 2 military men and killed one of them, that same medial did its best to ignore it.

the doctor murdered at least 65,000 babies and was a leading doctor in partial birth abortions,

the military men hand not killed even a single person

Its all right,
I try to avoid this kind of crap too.
I don't care much for our society and its ways, never did.
Never cared much about organized religions.
Civilization is anything but civilized, its always been that way.   One day it will be no longer.
I too have thought a lot about life and death and our place in the grand scheme of things.
It adds up to nothing.  Man killed the true essence of himself long ago.
My perspective is fine, I see what others do not.
Its my nature.
The difference is I don't have the need or desire to try to explain what I see to anyone, it would only be a waste of effort.
You walk your path, and I will walk mine.

Moons.

Look we can all continue to go back and forth, each climbing on our soapboxes to proclaim how we are right and the other is wrong, we can talk until we are blue in the face and the cows come home but nothing I say as a pro-choice advocate is going to change the mind of a pro-life advocate, and vice versa, so really, what's the point of all this back and forth?

There is no way to know if the rate of abortion in the USA for reasons other than the health of the mother, went up after the Roe v Wade decision because  there were no statistics kept prior to the decision.  Each side can report wildly different numbers, but neither can actually substantiate them, so the point is moot.

We do know the rate of abortion in the USA has steadily decreased back down to early 70 figures, which everyone must agree is good news.  I believe the reasons the rate is going down include better education, and better access to contraceptives.  I also think we can attribute the decrease to parents.  Thanks to better parenting, most kids from the current generation do not come from a home where sex is not discussed,  daughters aren't treated like they are sluts for having a natural sex drive & if a girl does get pregnant, she isn't  shunned in disgrace, and sent off for "an extended vacation with relatives".  The fact that a child now feels she can come to her parents for guidance and help instead of running to a clinic for fear of devastating reprisal from her parents is a huge factor in why the rate of abortion in the USA is decreasing.

Obviously more still needs to be done, but we are headed in the right direction.  I don't believe making abortions illegal will lower the statistics, but it will drive daughters, sisters and mothers back underground for the procedure and that would be tragic.  We need to change minds not laws.

government and neighbors have no business interruding in the private lifes and choices of others. we all need to mind our own business,  live our own lives,  make our own choices, and stop trying to push for laws that force our individual agenda/worldview on others, thereby reduce individual freedoms. if you don't like people's choice and it's very important to you that these people follow your beliefs show less judgement and more compassion and find out why they make the choices they do; find out what fears are behind these choices and offer a reasonable & productive alternative that addresses their issue. this will provide people, who find themselves in challenging situations, more choices without any need for the laws to be changed, and choices and freedoms reduced.

the number one job of the gov is to protect the rights of the individual while balancing them with the needs of the state; any religious view is irrelavant and needs to be addressed in a different venue and not legislated, otherwise you depart from the constitution, which is illegal. i'm sorry many people find the choices of others objectionable (or contrary to particular religious beliefs) but equally if not more objectionable is invading the privacy of others for any reason. this is not a government/country that was set up to force conformity to one particular belief structure; and after so many years of living under a doctrine as reasonable as our constitution, one would think/hope that we would understand that the number one job of the individual is to understand and embrace the fact that many of our neighbors think differently than we do and we must learn to be ok with these differences and refrain from imposing our worldviews on others. stop trying to legislate morality and start offering options which don't require the "strong arm of the law" to enforce.
this is the true "pro-choice" position - the more choices the better, the fewer laws the better.
