Consus

A long the same line as Moons.  I to have pups that I have still have not placed yet.  And would not put in a shelter or anything else until I find the right home.  My question is what would be the lowest price you would put on a pet quality pup?  I had a litter of 10 and still am looking to place 5.  They are staying with me until the right home comes but I think I'm asking too much I don't know.

Wow, 5 is a lot to hang on to. It seems GSDs do tend to have large litters from what I'm learning on here. crhuerta made an excellent post about contacting local clubs. Depending on parents merits, maybe someone in law enforcement, SAR, therapy dog clubs? '
Good Luck, thats a lot of poop to clean up :)

Hi moons,
Firstly I do not breed very often maybe 1 litter every 2 to 3 years and I have most of the puppies booked before they are on the ground,   but if I had 1 or 2 pups left and could not look after them I would be calling on my trusted friends for some help to find the pups a good home I would never put them into a shelter but if the worse came to the worse I would put them into a recomended gsd rescue center thank god that would never happen with mine but if it did I would never breed again I would never put a healthy pup to sleep no matter what colour it was panda or other wise it is not the puppys/dogs fault it was born the usual mans doing again and the animal has to pay the price I feel that all the breeders should take stalk of the econemy and stop breeding untill thing change for the better and then just then the shelters and gsd rescue centers may just not be overflowing with unwanted dogs/puppies

Hi Consus. In my area, a pet quality pup usually sells from $500-$750. I have seen a few for $350, but I would not expect that on average.  Anyway, good luck placing your pups!

to me, $500 is a good decent price for a pet puppy.  I have went lower though if it is a good home, and they will be doing something with the puppy.

Well I must agree with some of the posters I only breed knowing my pups will be going to a forever home , but you still have to plan ahead just incase one or two buyers back out.
I had a litter 2 years ago pups where all sold , then I get a call when the pups where 6 wks old that one buyer can't get the pup because of serious injury well the pup was with me till she was a year old I showed her titled her and here comes a buyer .
Even once you have the deposits allready it is never guaranteed that everyone actually Can get the pup for any type of reason .

Allways Plan ahead.

I understand how an unwanted litter can happen. A dog from an unwanted litter was dumped on me........Mom was black lab, father was fencer jumper. Come to find out - all the pups were psycotic! After the dog we ended up with bit a dozen of our closest friends we put it down.

all of these dogs should have been put down at birth - they were all evil - but i guess its difficult to tell when they're just puppies. This would have been the responsible thing to do.

the list of horrible things the this dog and its litter mates did is very long.

I would sell the pup as a pet,or even give it away to a carefully selected home before I would put it to sleep or even turn it over to a rescue group. It's my responsibility to find a home for the pup. I chose to breed in the first place,I won't burden a rescue group, most are overwhelmed already. If my way of thinking offends any one,I am sorry but thats just the way I see it.
Killing a pup or letting someone else handle your screw up is bullshit in my opinion. This is not directed at anyone, just my take on what happens to the unwanted.Show me a dog lover that can kill a healthy pup because he can't sell it and I'll show you a damn liar.I would also like to add that just because some people can afford to pay for a pup doesn't mean anything.I took in a showline pup a few months ago[I WAS NOT THE BREEDER] from a couple that could afford one,but couldn't afford to give the pup the attention it needed, leaving it to scream from loneliness untill they decided it had to go.His only crime was needing more then just a bowl of premium kibble,a big fenced in back yard and a couple of pats on the head.So in my opinion just because someone can pay for the pup doesn't mean anything unless your only in it for the money.I'm just an ignorant BYB,but I seem to be a little more ethical them some of you professional people.Kill the unsold pups and when the bitches are to old to reproduce kill them to.If you are offended by my comments, then you are the ones I chose to target, and the shoe fits.

what is the story about "The Unwanted", was it the last puppy in a planned litter? Was it a fence jumper special? Is it healthy? Does it have a sound temperment?

"The Unwanted" - is so open.......

I had a leftover puppy from a planned litter, and the puppy is of good temperment and sound health. I'd have to find a place that would spay/neuter it and then find a good free home.

If this puppy is a real beauty that has  been overlooked and has good potential to show and work, I'd try to hang on to it until it matures and train it all the while.......Maybe someone will want it when it blooms into a nice dog.

If the puppy is not of good temperment or is not of sound health, I'd have to take it to the vet and cry as I put it to sleep.

Tough decisions.......being responsible is a double edged sword

Back again,
It was just a broad question about what people think they would do in that particular situation.
Was a rainy day question.
