One of my best friends, a black man, with whom I worked, was frustrated and was constantly using the discrimination card because he was being passed up for promotions.....even though is work was wonderful his "in your face culture and attitude" made others uneasy.

After watching this for over 2 years, I invited him to lunch and explained to him how things work and work. 1. everyone that gets anywhere at work puts on a business persona. 2. we all dress in the expected manor 3. we don't show attitude. these are the rules for everyone, not just persons of color, or persons who are white........they are the "business face" that we must all show if we want to do well..........I explained that "bikers" who looked and acted the part, and cowboys, and Latinos and rednecks all of them had to check in their differences at the door if they wanted to get ahead.....just like me - I was a completely different person away from work then at work.

It was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do, because even though it was what he needed to hear, I knew it would put a very large strain on our friendship. He was indeed offended! He didn't talk to me for months. He looked at me in a sorrowful way and shake his head.

Well, after is sunk in a while, he slowly improved his attitude, stooped doing the slang talk at work, stopped dressing in such an ethnic way and he was immediately promoted - twice in a row! He was even sent to Japan on assignment for several months. Not because he is black, but because he is a valued and trusted employee who is very competent.

After a while we started talking again, though never did we bring up the subject again. We've double dated, invited each other to parities, dinner all the things that friends do.........I switched jobs, and we still e-mail. We watch out for each other and if one of us is out of a job, we network for each other...........

My best female friend is a Latina, though she calls herself a "mexi-can".  This weekend we went to a small dinner party at the home of an Eastern Indian. This summer we are planning to go to Alaska with a very, very culturally diversified group.......

Get off with the racist crap..........the lable doesn't fit on me.

Nice avoidance SitasMom.  I see you have nothing to say about Raymonds overt racism either.  Your little story about how you made "one of your best friends who is black" see the errors of his ways is unbelievably condescending.   Make Raymond your next little pet project, see how far you get.

KTF let us all apply the same rules with which you evaluate comment to the same commants you make! I speak from experience when I say that blacks play the race card to their advantage FAR MORE than do whites! My MANY -MANY-MANY dealings with blacks both young and old show a conclusive tendancy for them to use the race card as an excuse for their actions. I once asked a small black child approxametly 14 years ols who was exibiting suspicous activities on my property and his reply was " you are just asking me that because I am black" I laughed at him and told him I could care less if he was purple just answer my question!~ He refused! I live in a community that is probably 60 % balck!!!!!!!!!!!! On several occasions my own tennants have tried that race card bs when talking about keeping the grass cut and bottles off the street. My reply was please do not shuck and jive me with that  black bs 1 It does not work on me! YOU know what their response was??? Ok we will take care of it. So when you people say Iam a racist my reply is this! Do not shuck and jive me with that bs it doesn't work on me1 Character NOT SKIN COLOR!  Oh there are far more whites in the congress than blacks! Neck tie party means a hanging and not a lynching! Sue please reprint the racist remarks I made ! Your failure to have an adequete knowledge of english is not my concern!

I can't even fathom what you mean by "ethnic" clothing, what - he was  wearing a Dashiki every day?   The reason it is condescending is in your little story this black man couldn't possibly figure out for himself what to wear and how to talk, you the great white woman, saved him from his ethnicity - give me a break.

Raymond now says he knows for a fact that people of color use the race card.  You are nothing but a backwards ignorant fool and a joke.  You are the poster child for poor white trash.

Don't give me that bullshit about not reading Raymonds comments, once more he makes unbelievably rude and disgusting statements and you still  give him a pass because it suits your purposes, he is a conservative, so anything else goes.  Saying nothing is no different than condoning his remarks.

That makes Bush look more like Keith Richards from the Rolling Stones.  That is pretty good.  Have to add that to my computer back ground.
