Oh, for heavens sake, you posted it late last night and its a weekday morning.  And I'm sorry to say my dear, but you haven't been very credible on this board when it comes to GSD knowledge and training, so don't expect many people to waste their time. They probably are passing this thread by thinking it's more political crap.

Again, yes, there ARE dog trainers who still use this method. I know there are a few on this board who will use it and while I disagree with the method itself strongly, the manner in which I deal with strong innappropriate aggression is not much nicer. Call me crazy, but I feel a dog needs conciousness to learn, so I don't "string them up", kick it, or "helicopter" it, how disgusting. However, if you have never been at the other end of a lead from an animal that wants to truly hurt you, and have been charged with resolving it,  you cannot possibly understand. When the only other option for the dog is euthanasia, I will protect myself and others and try to save the dogs' life by resolving aggression.

Now, I think very few would condone what is described on that website, if it is indeed true, it is brutal and beyond unnecessary. But the author of the site is making it sound like every single K9 trainer/handler, schutzhund enthusiast, military trainer, etc., out there does that, and that is grossly inaccurate, ignorant, and in my eyes greatly damages her credibility.

KCzaja, thank you!  I wasn't going to bother to respond to the article because it was laden with inaccuracies.  I agree with your post and might have commented here until some others jumped in, then it was clearly a waste of time.  Since the article was so poorly done and things taken out of context by a person that obviously lacks experience training dogs I won't comment further.

It's not the silence that deafening it's the people skipping by this post for the obvious reasons.

Exactly Jim and KCzaja.  Another case of "I read it on the Internet so it must be true".   People can find trash on the internet all day long that will support all kinds of lunacy, like bullshit about ecollars, evidence of the existence of Thunder birds and Sasquatch,  proof President Obama is really secret Muslim born in Kenya, and  the Ventura PD has a secret k9 hanging club.

maggs if you want to believe this go ahead, I couldn't care less, but if you ever want to actually find out what schutzhund is all about then get off your ass and go visit some clubs.  The fact that you are so willing to believe this crap speaks to your issues, nothing else.

I train my dogs using primarily motivation as do many that I train with..  I have read this site before and it is complete BS.

Maggie you are just looking for people to  argue with..  Either you want to learn or you don't.  One of your other threads I answered you and took the time to explain some things but I really get the impression that the conflict and the arguing are more important because you continued to argue AFTER you had gotten your answer.

Maggie,

There are idiots in any avocation.  So, yes it probably happens occasionally.  www.youtube.com/watch
With that being said, anyone who says that appropriate force is never justified in the training of a K9 is a fool, and that is what this article seemed to suggest.

What ever happened to DR?
