I don't think that every rib should show --  I can see why you can "feel holes being bored in the back of your skull" when you take your dog out in public.   The dog looks underfed.

Oh, I also agree with MVF

Also, just noticed the picture of the other dog -- it looks way too thin also.   Just my personal opinion.   I just don't care for that look.    Kinda like those skinny, emaciated looking models in the fashion mags

I DON'T agree with that Maggie. I think RLHAR's dog look terrific. Look at the shine to her coat. You can see every cut to her muscle. My 3 yr old male looks the same in the middle, good deep tuck, you can see all his ribs but he has a mass of muscle on his shoulders and butt. An underfed unhealthy dog doesn't have a nice coat or healthy muscle. A starved dogs body, eats it's own muscle.

Look at the shoulder and thigh muscle in my dog.

More thigh muscle/loin muscle, oops look at that skinny waist.

OMG, he must be starved! Look at that tummy!

Yup this is how it works starved dog have no muscle, as they get consumed first by the body to support it's primary activities (Yes "first" even before body access fat cells, this is why if you try to loose weight and build muscle you should eat more high quality food, keep your metabolism working at it's optimum, if you wit hold food your body will consume muscles first, as they are not necessary weight and good source of energy.)

Maggie, for you potential edification, here is the same dog doing the sport she loves.  Personally, the speed and spring with which she hits these obstacles is such that I'd be holding my breath and praying each time she went over that she didn't break a limb on the way down.

As 4Pack and Snaiper have already pointed out, she is a ball of muscle, not extra fat need apply.

PS for those who know what this means, she didn't touch that hurdle coming back.  I was so proud of her. :D

Okay so maybe her tail touched a little. ;)

RLHAR -- She doesn't even look like the same dog in these pictures.   The stack apparently accentuates her ribs.   She looks great !

4PACK -- Beautiful dog(s) and darling little boy

Certainly nothing wrong with RLHAR Dog it is in beautiful condition as as is Jettsmoms dog
I wish more people would keep there Dogs the same condition
Little do  people know  that overweight causes Dogs health problems, Personally i do not care about people commenting on my Dogs,  I know how they are and that is all that counts with me

This is how my dogs look, IMO they are all in about ideal condition right now and how the pics illustrate:

Nikon ~15 mos.  Not sure his height and weight but I think about 25" and 75lbs.  He's actually smaller than a lot of younger show line males that we know or show against.  I like them smaller though.

Coke, 3 years.  Coke is a mix and has a coat like a Chow, Pyr, and Malamute all in one.  He *looks* 85lbs (that was my guess) but he usually weighs 60-65lbs.  He's 26" tall and actually an inch or two taller in the rear (he's an odd shape!).  When he is wet you can see how skinny he is.  In fact the first time he went swimming I increased his food!!

Kenya, 6 years.  She is currently 50lbs and I think 21"-22" tall.  She is always lean but has quite a barrel chest when you look at her from the top.  She is smaller than the puppy but her chest looks way more mature when they are side by side or from the top.

Kenya and Coke eat 2-2.5 cups of food a day.  Nikon eats 4-5 because he is so young and active and I don't like when his hip bones start to stick out.

Luckily I've never had anyone say (out loud to me) that they think my dogs are too skinny.  Most people see them and compliment them, or admit their dogs are fat.
