All joking aside, I have heard that about pancreatitis...but truthfully only on those sites that try to scare you against raw feeding. I have heard that SUDDENLY getting into a LARGE AMOUNT of fat can cause it, however. Like the dog who eats nothing but crap kibble his whole life and then drags all the turkey fat and skin out of the trash after Thanksgiving. Those are the instances I have heard of. I have never heard of a normal, healthy dog who regularly eats a balanced diet get pancreatitis due to steady, higher fat levels.

How about a combo of all three wrapped up in the package of a police K9 whose handler is a mirror image of his/her dog?

My personal favorite.

Youre just jealous because your mali makes you look even fatter than a GSD would.

No .... cops are hyper-sensitive about such things..... so Ive found. LOL

Not as sensitive as some on the PDB it seems.

I would think a neutered cop would be even more sensitive.

So many things I could say........But, I'm gonna let it go......

Starrchar,
I feed raw chicken thighs and quarters as the bulk of my dogs raw diet.  I remove the skin from most of the chicken quarters.  I found my dogs got loose stools with too much skin.  I do feed twice a day due to the amount my male will consume.  I can feed 2 1/2 lbs of raw food max at one feeding and he does well.  If I feed more he will get loose stools.  If I am working him hard, which I do he gets a snack in the morning and his meal at around 3 AM when we get home from work.  He is 80 lbs of muscle with no fat on his body, unlike me the fat K9 cop.

LoL Jim that was funny hahahahaha

What is with this board lately and cops? Most of you never spend any times with cops did you? In the past I didn't care for police officer much, always though they were on a power trip, than when working in dunkin donuts when in high school I made few friends (no it's not a cop joke), what I learned they are just regular people, you will find some assholes and some cool people, what I found is that most of the time the cops on power trip are the new ones that try to prove them selves, and the older more experience were actually the coolest nicest people you could ever meet. Over the time I learned to understand is not the "cops" that we don't like but their job, many times they are there to give us ticket and who likes a guy that makes you pay for your mistake? no one. But when you really need them you do appreciate them. So I think the least some of you can do is give them some credit is not an easy thing to do, every day you meet people that totally despise you for what you do rather than what you are, lets hope that some of you will never need their help, but the day you will you will learn to appreciate them.

I think also Rhlhr dog is very under feed.   Being able to feel the ribs is one thing, however seeing every single rib is just plain aweful.   I am sure that people don't deprieve themselves or  can people see your ribs as well?

Dodie,
I have seen Rlhar's dog in person at a seminar I hosted.  I can assure you that the dog is not underfed, but in excellent shape.  Most nice, happy, loving pet owners kill their dogs with what they believe is kindness.  Too many treats, too much food etc.  A female working line GSD should be in the 60 lb range give or take.  A GSD is a medium sized dog, not a large breed dog.  Rlhar's dog is a canine athlete, do you say the same thing when you see a middleweight boxer in excellent condition?   When you watch the Olympics and see the track and field competition do you say those sprinters and those gymnasts are so skinny?

My male GSD is 3 1/2 years old and weighs maybe 79 or 80 lbs.  He eats between 2 1/2 to 3 lbs of raw food per day.  You can see his ribs when he works, you can also see his shoulder muscles.  He is not skinny but in excellent physical condition.  I'm sure if he was in a pet home that didn't understand working dogs he would be over 100 lbs from all of the treats and dry dog food.  Then the pet owner brags my GSD is 100 lbs or my dog is 120 lbs.   My answer to them is you have a fat dog.  People should not fatten their dog up because it makes the owner feel better.  I'm sure your dog will take every treat you offer, the dogs do not know any better.  It is the responsibility of the owner to care for the dog and not allow it to become obese.

Rlhar, thank you for posting the pictures of your dog. She is in excellent condition.  Some dog owners need to realize how their dog should look and what condition the dog should be maintained.   Overweight dogs risk serious health consequences, it's not fair to the dog.

I appreciate a superior conditioned canine.

JMO,

Jim

I am sure that people don't deprive themselves....

Read up on obesity and health concerns in the population today, you will find that it is a problem that people do not know when to stop eating ;).

Do you people honestly think that those posts had anything to do with cops, really??! It was one statement made by one person, joking about someone they've obviously seen and/or know. Why does one statement about one person make anyone think it's some blanket statement to do w/cops? If the comment had been about a Chinese person, or a person with blond hair, instead of a cop, would you all think someone was calling  all Chinese people and blond people fat? Um, no. I hope not anyway.

Good Lord. Lighten up, folks.
