Jenni, cancer is not caused by screws and plates put in bone. Cancer is caused by an abnormal growth of cells. As far as the xrays, the legs do not looked "bowed". It looks more like the placement of the dog for the xrays. Kinda like when you do hips and the body isn't perfectly straight.
Kelly, I can see very clearly where the break was and how it has healed. This is one of the unfortunate possiblities of a growth plate fracture.
As far as you who are doubting Kelly, she is not a scam.

Actually.....

"Having had previous soft tissue radiation also increases the risk of OSA. As does having a metallic implant (fracture repair). This is very rare though and should not discourage an owner from repairing a fracture."
http://vetmedicine.about.com/library/viewers/ucosa-a.htm

"Causes
Canine osteosarcoma can be caused by various things. Two of the most common causes include chemical carcinogens and radiation. Foreign metal objects inside your dog may also cause him to develop canine osteosarcoma. Abnormalities such as healed bone fractures are also a common cause."
http://www.dog-illnesses.com/canine-osteosarcoma/

"Osteosarcoma (OS) is the most common bone tumour in dogs and is characterized by a highly invasive and metastatic behaviour. This tumour frequently affects middle-aged, large breed dogs (less than 5% occur in breeds smaller than 12 kg) and arises in 75% of cases in the metaphyseal area of bones of the appendicular skeleton. The median age of dogs with OSA is 6-7 years. Males are more commonly affected than females. A cause for OSA is unknown although many etiologies have been stipulated (radiation, microtrauma, genetics, implants, nutrition)."

No, Kelly is not a scammer, and she only has ONE dog with leg problems.

Jaggirl47, I'm sorry, but you are incorrect. While it is rare, it absolutely DOES happen. Personally, I wouldn't introduce any foreign body unless absolutely necessary.

And I didn't say anything about any dog's legs. I didn't bother to look at the xrays because I really don't care. If I can help the poor dog by providing info that 99% of vets won't have, then that's great. I haven't nearly enough time to even bother wondering how many legs are bowed, why, and if Kelly is a scammer.

You said, "Good luck to both  dogs. Poor things."

Kelly has been a good friend of mine and this has been brought to her attention not more than a couple of weeks ago. I also sent this x-ray to my vet to have her evaluate it and she also said that this boy needs to see an orthopedic for surgery and this is something that is an injury and not something that was genetic, although her clinic couldn't do the surgery she had given Kelly the advice on what to do.

There are a lot of breeders like Kelly that take a lot of effort to place her dogs in the right homes otherwise Brix would have been in a home months ago and she wouldn't had to deal with this issue.

I totally understand other members wondering whether this is a scam as there are many idiots on this forum that take avantage of others and I assure you that Kelly is not one of these people. She has just been caught in a period of having an injury to her dog and the lack of money to repair it. I only hope that all of you don't ever fall onto hard times and have an issue with your dogs!!!!!!!!!

Ghostly, few here have suggested this is a scam. But there ARE many here who have fallen on hard times and have more pride than to come to a place like this and ask for donations, even as they are loosing everything. There are people here, for example, who have sacrificed many dollars over years doing rescue, or taking in dogs no one wanted. Or paying for the cost of vet care for an injured stray, or donating to an animal welfare organization. And they don't breed.

When one breeds, it is up to the breeder, to take care of the issues associated with produced pups. I think that is what many people feel here. Those who care to donate will, but many have other ways to give and will choose to do that. So don't mix up what this is about.

Vom Marischal....BOTH DOGS meaning Kelly's AND Caldax's. Which is why I posted that after telling Caldax that I sent a PM.

by VomMarischal on 15 December 2009 - 03:12

OH, I get it.

by interdictor on 15 December 2009 - 03:12

This place hasn't changed much. There are those that have to toss crap into every thread, just because they can and they thrive on seeing their names in print. Mark3, you haven't got a clue what you're looking at on an xray and then you make these oblique accusations under the guise of innocent comments. Don't feel bad, you're not alone. There's at least one other that 'doesn't get it.'

If Kelly could afford to fly around the country with Brix, to visit with every guru ortho vet someone recommends, she wouldn't have put out a call for $$$ help.

By going to MSU with Brix, Kelly has gone to one of the best facilities in the country. The other facilities are just like MSU - State university vet programs. This is where you go for the latest and greatest treatment options. Did your corner guru invent the stuff he is so well known for? Hell no! He went to these very same institutions that Kelly sought out.  Has your corner guru attended all the seminars, symposiums and lectures in the past 3 years? Probably not. Some of the ones that have are some of the ones that looked at Brix today.

So lighten up and support Kelly with kind words or $$$ help. If you can't do that, then STFU.
