ShelleyR

by ShelleyR on 12 January 2010 - 15:01

A day without something happening to the van is just a dream I wish I had had. Yesterday it was the muffler falling off as I reached Memphis. It tore out the trailer light hook up on its way under, bounced, and the trailer ran over it, bouncing so high the heavy load of #700 crates on the top tore half the luggage rack off.

Memphis is full of angels, turns out. One, who is a member of this board, ezs (ez street) and his wife, aka- Carwford and Tommye Street. These tow angels took me to dinner after the angels at the local Midas shop repaired the van and tied down my load on the trailer, in less than 90 min! (and less than $250) We were supposed to meet for late lunch, but the rig had other ideas, as usual. I am kicking myself for not having gotten a photo of Crawford and one of Crawford and Tommye together!!! It was really great meeting these two fascinating people and sharing history of the breed we all love over a nice, warm meal. I hope I can come back and visit under less rushed circumstances one day before too long.

Time to load up and head out, see what the van, now renamed The Beast, has in store for Shelley & Co. today. I only made about 200 miles yesterday before darkness and this flu, or brochitis, or whatever its morphed into by now, forced me to pack it in for the night. I can't see well in the dark, especially with doggy-scratched dark window tint film on the side windows... I wonder if there's any way to get that stuff off so one might see out the windows?

Thanks for all the kinds words and thoughts. It was great to hear Steve1's voice on the phone yesterday morning, all the way from Belgium! That man's soothing voice and British/European-tinted accent could charm the birds right out of the trees. :-)))

My voice, unfortunately, is gone, no signs of returning any time soon. The cefalaxin isn't working. The good news is that it isn't so cold as it was a week ago, or two weeks ago, or whenever it was I started this fateful journey. (New Year's Eve, wasn't it?)  At this rate I should hit Modesto sometime around June-July, with a brand new 1992 GMC conversion van, and maybe NO trailer.

I LIKE Tennessee. Also like KY. Like I said, ANGELS EVERYWHERE around here. Pretty county, some live vegetations even in the dead of winter, (the Magnolias, hedges, all green and pretty) lots of potential tracking fields. :-)))  If I didn't have a female due to whelp on Jan 18 scaring me down the road as fast as I can safely go in the van, I'd love to hang around and see some of this beautiful part of the country. Another time.

Dogs done eating. Time to get going. Hope to make OK by dark.

Shelley:

Use a razor blade to strip the window tint then clean it with alchol and it will be fine.

Thanks Bob. I'll try to pick up a pack of blades at the drug store before the rig breaks down today. Give me something to do besides curse while I wait for the wrecker.

Sounds like the adventurous edge is back!  Nice that you finally got to spend some time with PEOPLE.  Glad you're back on the road, keep a roll of duct tape and a can of WD-40, you'll be able to fix anythig, LOL.  Hang in there!

And she breeds a female with such an unsure and unstable life atm. That's awesome!

Is this a joke or are you serious?  If it's for real, what will you do if your dog needs a c-section on the road?

Hope today finds you event free Shelley.  Are you at the point where the only thing that stops your from screaming is the fear that you won't be able to stop?  <hug>

Tenn and Kentucky are two of my favorite states.  Beautiful country and good people.

Raymond
All you need is Will Power nothing else and that comes from within yourself no one can put it there or take it away.
Faith you do not need, and I hope Shelley has that Will Power to see it through and i am sure she does as she is one tough lady
