True enough!
I believe the two primary reason politics and religion should be avoided at all costs are as follows:
1. This is a dog forum. When Oli first divided into breed specific and general he actually did state the reason he added the general topics was so that dog topics related to all breeds would be visible to everyone, where as topics specific to a breed would only appear under that breed.
2. These types of discussions always devolve into personal attacks and people basically repeating themselves over and over again, but using slightly different words and phrases. It's the nature of the beast, it serves no purpose, other than the selfish needs of the one doing the venting. I am pretty sure not one single person has ever been swayed to change their core, secondary or even their peripheral political or religious beliefs because of what they read on this dog forum. In short it's not productive and in fact is destructive to the forum.
I think another good idea might be an "ignore" button. But what I would like to see is every time people post, if anyone has put them on their "ignore" list, the names of all the people who ignore that person would show up on the bottom of every post the ignored person makes.

Moderators, abusive post flagging, banning attempts wouldn't be needed at all if everyone here would do just one simple thing. It's called grow up and act like adults. Half the trash spewed on this board wouldn't come out of anyone's mouth to their mother or even in an an old run down hole in the wall bar.
