How many saw the Larry King program on Sunday? In case you didn't, it's common practice in China and the Czech Republic to skin live animals used for trims on garments sold to this country. Buyer beware. The dogs and cats are stuffed into cages to tightly they can't move. One, a GSD, was skinned alive and allowed to lie in shock and shivering for 20 minutes prior to expiring. It is alleged that thousands of dogs and cats are killed in this manner for their fur. The HSUS is investigating and asking for a ban by the European Union. Take from this what you wish. This is not a bunch of crap, it's true.

oh my god...that is horrific...I can't believe they at least don't kill the poor animals first...that wouldn't make it right, but at least not as cruel

In some countries, dog is a delicacy. I will be politically correct and not name those countries, as not to offend anyone or insinuate a stereotype. I have lived there, seen that, but declined the offer when the plate was put in front of me. It's a big old world out there and people are not the same. Stephen

It is indeed a big old/cold world. If we stop purchasing these fur trimmed garments, no market equals no more skinning of live animals. It is nothing more than supply and demand. Actually I thought that most in the US rejected imported garments trimmed with real fur, this is certainly not the first time the media has reported on such an atrocity. Faux fur seemed to be what all wanted. Now it's back to the real deal?

I also happned to see that Larry King show and felt sickend and numb afterwards! As you said, those poor dogs and cats were packed in cages so tight and the cages were thrown to the ground from the top of the trucks. The dogs all slamming into each other. The cats were strangled one by one and the dogs were cut on the inside of the rear leg and left to bleed out. All this so they did not harm the fur. How those bastards can kill and mistreat those poor animals in such a way is beyond me!!! Thank god they showed this and hopefully will cause such an uproar and put some pressure on the China & Czech Goverments to get involved and ban it. The European and North American Goverments also need to insure the ban on this fur trim market! As Alec Baldwin and Paul McCartneys wife said, every caring person needs to get involved on this one.

Euro-k9...I am sure you don't know everything that goes on around you ...just like us here in America...I know there are things that go on underground or on the black market that we know nothing about...we have people here selling their own children for money on the black market..there are people trying to stop it..my point is that you cannot say this is not happening in your country..obviously it is..just because you personally don't see it doesn't mean it isn't happening..if it appalls you you should look into it and try to stop it...

Read it for yourself, Euro K-9, Zack has posted the information for accessing the transcript from that TV show.

It is surprising what American media can fabricate and how this information can interpret by the audience. I understand the public concern over animals in China (though considering the absence of human rights, this should not be shocking). But giving one of the European countries the same status is in my opinion ignorance. Europe is mentioned as whole and Czechoslovakia as an example of a buyer not as a produces. Yet, this information is based on disputed evidence. Also the person that gave such example, in this case “Rick Swain, chief investigator for the Humane Society of the U.S. and a former homicide detective” states a country that doesn’t exist for 15 years. It would be in his interest before he makes any public statement to research the proper names of countries he refers to. I can not say that he convinced me with his credential. By the way “North America” do you know that in the Czech R. people don’t crate their dogs inside a house, they consider that as cruel.

Czinca I fully agree with you. Czech Republic/Czechoslovakia was given as an example of EU country . I have just read out the reccomended cnn transcription regarded to the China/worldwide fur trading. Although I am not too strong on english way I would not say that dogs and cats are sloughtered or skinned alive here in the Czech Republic. Of course I am not familiar with black market and illegal practicals. However I am not overingenuous knowing that everything is possible anywhere. Well, read the only sentence below which is talking about Czechoslovakia. ....And we have as recently as within the past three months purchased cat fur out of China in Czechoslovakia.... It says that fur coming from China is purchased in Czechoslovakia, right...? Sincerely Peter Vajda Euro k-9 connection, Czech Republic
