DDR-DSH

by DDR-DSH on 10 April 2010 - 20:04

I gave it all a lot of thought, last night, and I think this will be my last post to this list.

People complain about the vitriol and bullying, but do this and other silly games, themselves. I guess sometimes we don't SEE that WE are doing it, ourselves. I may be culpable, I admit.. If I hurt anyone, I apologize.

What I DO see is a lot of tit-for-tat, people wanting to jump into each other's shit, challenging and confrontation, rumor mongering and so forth. All about provocation, hurting, hurting back, and defense of a lot of flaming egos.. Folks, that isn't worth a hill of beans, and it's a huge waste of time. Looking back, I think some of the biggest wastes of my time and energy have been on email lists and blogs like this. In case you guys haven't figured it out, it's all about creating website traffic and selling advertising, mainly by exploiting compulsive social behavior. I don't want to be compulsive and tied into petty conflicts, which bear no fruit and can never be won.

People are nuts.. They ask opinions, try to get you drawn into their little personal drama, and then ignore your advice or slap you in the face for your trouble... Or, you get called out for it, and put on the spot, with only two options.. burn more time trying to sell or defend yourself or your ideas, or slink away and drop the matter.  I'm pretty tough, but not without feelings. We ALL have feelings. We almost all have opinions.. I don't think there's anyone out there without opinions on something of concern to us. But we gain by exchanging ideas.. even if we don't particularly LIKE those ideas. The fact is that humans learn only by experience.. their own, or that of others. Exchange of ideas is a good thing! We also gain by risking. No one can tell you for sure the outcome of any action or venture. You can only weigh the risk / benefit ratio as best you can, but you can never really know the final outcome.

I guess I'm like most people, that I do tend to avoid conflict.. but moreover, I avoid irrelevant, fruitless conflict. I like to say: "Pick your battles".. Go for what's important to you, and try to go for the battles you can win. We can't take on the world. I guess the key is learning our own limitations and NOT getting sucked into things by means of emotion. Emotion is irrational, and very addictive. It can also be used as a tool for self improvement. But, not many people know this. Most people identify so strongly with their own feelings, their likes and dislikes, that they have literally no other sense of self, and no other means of fulfillment and self-validation.

Well, enough of the preachy stuff.. Peace out, guys!

ps.. It's a shame, but I get the impression that a lot of good people have checked out of this ongoing discourse for much the same reasons. Only the smarter ones with the most to offer figure this out, by the way..

"Bat shit crazy, but (thank God) NOT a drama addict!

Uh.. One more thing.. I want to thank the people who HAVE been very nice and helpful! You are appreciated and loved! Anyone want to PM me, that's fine, but I may not check my mail here for a month or more. I'm going back to my own interests and duties, now. Thanks!
