If dog is so "sweet" and "sound", why is he attacking his breeder in the video that we all see with our own eyes? How many has he put in the hospital?

by D.H. on 13 May 2006 - 20:05

you call yourself a K9 competitor? sorry...

by GSDMan on 14 May 2006 - 04:05

D.H. Why are you defending this dog? Have you ever seen him in person? I have, and I have posted my opinion. bluenight has also, and has posted a link to a video showing his exploits in Denmark and obviously out of fear of retribution has backed off. Don't shoot the messenger!!! Perhaps you can have an open mind and try to see others opinions!!!! Don't be so quick to jump on the band wagon just because the former owner/trainer has posted a reply, or "Mandy know it all" has added to it. I have posted VERY few comments in the 2 years I have been on this board. PLEASE believe me that I would not pass on the comments I have if I didn't feel strongly about what I have seen of this dog, and what I have to say about him. We can all state our opinions without it turning into a war. The breeder/owner/friend of/groupie of/ or who ever it may be can not silence those who have seen the truth and are not afraqid to speak about it!! Take it for what it's worth and hopefully sometime in the future you will be able to see the dog for yourself and then pass judgment and make comments for or against the temperament of this dog. And D.H. ...if it's really that important to YOU, why don't YOU contact the Danish Kennel Club for a translation before YOU chastise anyone else!!! That's a direct challenge! Now let's see if you can be honest and report back with what they have to say! I already have, put up or shut up!!

GSDman, it is not important to me... too many people pay too much attention to the titles and not enough attention to the actual dog. And this is what the discussion is actually about - the title. Whether he still has it or not. No one *really* cares about the dog. But its good drama. If the VA1 was taken away or not seems to be important to those who are very clearly not satisfied by the account of previous owners, who really should know. So ask the officials and then accept that, end of story. Right now we only have heresay. Those who know me, know what I think about heresay. As for the 2005 showing - the judge and God knows who else were there that day to see, if anyone had an issue with that it would have been brought up and dealt with right there. Since it did not, no one at that show thought enough of it to make an issue out of it. And believe me, competition in the ring is such that if anyone behind that dog would have thought that there may be the smallest chance to get that competition eliminated they would have done so on the spot. Someone would have spoken, and then officials have to deal with it. If I recall Ulko already had a VA title in 2004. The 2004 result will not be affected by anything that may or may not have happened in 2005. Like it was mentioned somewhere above, a failed SchH3 is not going to strip a dog of his previous SchH3s. So he is VA and will remain VA. As to that video clip, a dog or person should hardly be defined by a mere few seconds of an otherwise outstanding life. Its the "no make-up" shot that has everyone gasping "but I thought that one was so perfect". Issues, yes Ulko had issues in that clip, but I do not see a single qualified comment here in regard to correct interpretation of that specific way of behaviour. And the clip does not show what led up to it. Concerning? Nope - if that dog would indeed have had serious intentions that day, the clip would have ended differently. It was a warning shot, like dogs give each other all the time. But a dog must not have any feelings or intentions, ohh no. Has to be that robotic performance. But not too whimpy please because that would be embarrassing, and not too aggressive either. Decide what you want. Be glad that there is a show line dog out there with a little pepper up his *ss. I do not hear the owners complain. Any serious working line person watching that clip will just give it a smirk, little more.

one more thing, the site www.schaeferhunddebat.dk is not a site of the Danish Kennel Club..., its a privately run GSD forum. So why would the Danish Kennel club send you a translation? And if you have contacted the DKK already why don't you post their official reply instad being so mysterious, hm?

I also could care less about the titles. Well said, fair enough.

A dog that we have seen up close and did not see problems. He was at a training club in December. No dog aggession; he was hanging out when husband was doing focus work with his dog in a group off the field, another dog was out and a 2 yr old toddler was tearing around. He was in close proximity (sp) to other dogs and people. Watched him do bite work. Nice, not over the top. Little bit out of control, from a handler standpoint. Nothing bad at all. Nice dog.

Finally saw this whole tape--Tried a few days ago, but it would stop as soon as it started. My (totally unsolicited) opinion---after turning, handler kept back a very strong dog, (probably the most driven from the look of that tail), allowing other dogs to go way ahead. This dog was angry, hurting, and fed up. I didn't see a vicious dog. I saw a dog who needs some understanding and compassion. When he put his head on the handler's leg, it was all in his eyes. It always is. Ulko wasn't a very happy camper that day. I hope he finds someone he wants to have eye contact with---there's no bond without it. No amount of training can substitute for a dog trying to please his human. He looked a little lost to me--not vicious. Personally, I liked the dog. My opinion is based solely on viewing the tape, nothing more. As for his performance as a competitor? He's already proven himself. Give him a break already.

GSDMan if you are going to write "Mandy know it all" PLEASE be so bold to sign your name. And baby I am sure I know a whole lot more than you have learned here on the Internet!! Be careful GSDMAN. I am SURE you have no idea how to read a dog. It looks like LMH has a good eye to see more than when he is TOLD to see. Mandy West - aka KNOW IT ALL:):):) What a joke, never said I knew it all but I do know Karat's dogs and Heidi and Jimmy very very well, what about you GSDMAN. Do know bother to reply as I am through with this subject and have said all that I will about it.

by GSDMan on 15 May 2006 - 00:05

Mandy...please stop flirting with me! It's good to see that you are your usual charming self:) Love always, GSDMan of your dreams
