moderators should not "comment" at all - if the moderators have an opinion about someone's post on a thread, and they want to comment, then they should comment just like every other poster on here.  But when acting as moderator, they should NOT be able to comment - just enforce the TOS, period.  If that enforcement entails editing a post, then the post should be edited and a short message "post edited by mod because TOS _____________ was violated".  End of comment.  Or, post can be deleted with a short message "post deleted due to violation of TOS".  Period.  NO personal comments should be made by moderators.  Everyone has a right to their opinion and as long as the poster is not violating TOS then the mods should not be involved at all.

"RFS, I absolutely see what you are saying, but if someone reads the TOS and feels it would infringe the principle of their freedom of speech, then this wouldn't be the forum for them."

Correct and it couldn't be any more straightforward than that.  There are thousands of forums all over the internet in which non-dog-related topics can be discussed; this isn't one of them.

 Molly,

Adding mods was a chicken poop way of not having to deal with a few people with big noses and loud mouths.  I understand not wanting the first page to be nothing but political discussions, but even that was caused by the afore mentioned idiots spamming on threads that they wished gone.

Moderators have shown utter contempt for the forum members and any opinion that differs from their own.  Oli, if not complicit, is certainly unwilling to stop this kind of fascistic behavior on the part of the mods.  The moderators would almost certainly come up with their own "interstate commerce clause",a kind of catch all TOS that would give them justification to delete almost anything.  And that's the good mods.  The others would simply delete your post and make something up.  It's not like Oli is going to stop them.  If Oli will not choose moderators who do not become so easily inebriated with power and who can take criticism, there is no hope for this site.

 Keith,

Nevermind.  You're too dense to understand.

RFS,

I agree with your description: UTTER CONTEMPT for FORUM MEMBERS. I reacted the same way.

I don't feel that it was correct for the moderator to remove a post addressed to Oli. That post didn't violate the TOS in my opinion.

Also I think the BIGGEST BEEF here is whole threads that are basically on topic get removed after several mis-guided posts. Punish the abusers IMO, the people that have wasted valuable time putting together numerous worthwhile answers are livid the whole thread is removed

Why even reply anymore if it continues.

Remember Oli has stated "middle of the road". He has also in the past stated he doesn't mind an occassional off topic thread, off course one that doesn't violate the TOS or be political etc.

"Nevermind. You're too dense to understand."

Really?  Somehow I can grasp the concept of a dog forum.

The thing about political discussions is that they aren't really discussions at all but are simply an opportunity for people to talk dirt about the members of whichever political party they oppose.  No one's opinion is changed, ergo, nothing constructive ever comes of them.

I understand the need to vent frustrations, especially with mods,  and also feel constructive criticism is always a good thing.

With regards to regular members interaction with one another,  I would like to step in and remind everyone of a couple of the terms of service.   (paraphrasing):

#4)  Always be respectful of other users.

#12)  Flaming and personal attacks will not be tolerated.
