My greatest disappointment in the USA SS is that there has been no official videographer since the 2005 show in Carson City. Yes, I bought a video there.

I will have my camcorder and will hope that I can find someone willing to use it to take videos of my dog's class. I have offered to take videos of friends' dogs in other classes and may video of the male bitework. The only problem with taking videos is that one gets so caught up in the technical aspect of it that one does no "see" the dogs. I have never attempted to master the editing of videos or uploading them on YouTube. I have bought video equipment for the sole purpose of taking videos for friends' dogs just to give them the gift of these memories--often of dogs who have since died.

Although I am not going to the show with the expectation of winning (we are going to have fun, meet old friends and perhaps make new ones), I have a real problem with folks who persist in showing their multiple-VA dogs in Veterans--even at local/regional shows. For example, can you count how many times Bella II has been shown as a Veteran? I might feel differently if these dogs were 12 years old and living as retired houspets.

"Another SV judge: Going back to the two SV judge system of years ago. Somewhat of a regression for USA."

Curious how this is a regression when the SV requirements are a bit higher than USCA's.

Annie,

You would have to have been following the USA sieger show since 2003. Prior to that there were SV judges. USA saw a need to develop their judges program and decided to implement USA judges at the sieger show. it has always been a controversial decision as the conformation ratings are only recognized in the US and not internationally. USA stuck with the program through all the reasons for competitors to object. It's taken 8 years for the plan to complete where we had a USA judge judging the males and in essence setting the direction of the breed for USA.

To clarify my statement it's a regression for USA to develop their judges program to the extent that it has reached the top and then do away with it. If USA decides to omit a USA judge this year, then their efforts, their persistence through thick and thin, will at least stall. It's a very complex subject that would take more explaining, detail, and space than I think anyone would want to devote to the rehashing of the past 8 years and how the system here is progressing towards a system similar to Germany but still has shortcomings. I'm sure USA is giving the matter careful consideration.

At this point we just need to wait and see what their decision will be. It's their show and I'm sure they will make the best decision possible.

Too bad USA does not have an Americn equalivalent of Reivision. Yes, I spent over $100 for official DVDs from the 2005 USA SS in Carson City. Multiply this by the numer of entries in the Working Classes and estimate how much USA could make on selling videos. Surely, USA can manage to find a USA member willing to volunteer their videography services for free. Then USA could take these videos and have them edited to sell as DVDs to the public.

If USA had a videographer for the SS and videos to market, they could profit from their sales and could afford SV judges. Without SV judges, the motels blocked at the headquarters site may result in room cancellations whose costs  USA would have to absorb.. In the old days, the GSDCA had volunteer amateur videographers for their National specialty shows. The club (or hired someone else to do) formatted and edited the videos with voice overs and sold them to the public as VHS tapes.

I have a VHS video copied from videos taken by an amateur at the 2003 USA SS in Bakersfield and sold at $25 each by that individual.

Even before Bill Leonard began peddling his DVDs of the BSZS, I took videos of a couple of his dogs with the first Sony 8mm camcorder on the market at a GSDCA National in Southern California and made him a VHS tape which he claimed was superior to the tapes sold by the GSDCA.

I will be taking free videos of friends' dogs in Texas and burning them DVD copies as records of their memories. Fortunately, my hybrid Sony camcorder (with a 60 GB hard drive) also takes 10 megapixel still shots and records the stills on 16 GB Memory Stick Pro Duo media. This way I can copy videos and still digital shots to DVD very easily.

Here is an example of such a still photo taken with my hybrid camera:

What a beautiful picture Louise! Great clarity!

Thanks, Robin. Taken a couple of years ago. This old man just turned 12.

I am giving away my still digital camera. Takes great photos but a hassle for an old woman to haul around two cameras.

I think USA may have found the perfect person to do just as you have suggested.

Fine, Randy--just as long as they don't tell me that I can't use my camcorder outside of the ring because I am not the official show photographer.

The first entry deadline is approaching. Who's planning to attend?

by crhuerta on 06 March 2011 - 18:03

I wish that we could attend this year...but unfortunately (due to work reasons)...we cannot.
Best of luck to all who attend.....I'll be waiting by the computer & phone for results!
