I know this thread is talking about prices of Pups. But the heading Prices i thougtht no need to start another thread.
What is the reason  Guys why you do you not answer my question that i asked, it is a simple request to those of you in the know as breeders and importers of dogs from Europe that is the only reason i asked, I am not trying to sell the Dog to any of you if i knew myself then i would not be posing the question.
So how about answering the question i asked, if you are so coy about putting it on here then PM me me it will go no further

Sitasmom your 350 is on the highside but lets use that,i paid 800 from Germany to Salt Lake and another 50 to Customs and thats not counting the travel and waiting time at the airport and some even pay 250 for Customs so i got off easy, anyway you slice it you get a much better buy on a dog in the US and chances are you will get a better dog here if you know what your looking for and be very picky on what  dog or pup you choose.

$3500 USD tops for your dog IMO.

It is very rude to hijack a thread like you are trying to do Steve.

Think about the numbers Sitasmom posted then remember that when you import you have no guarantees, either. Or if you do, you'll likely be paying to ship your dog back and the new one in, or at least ship the new one in. Another very large expense that most buyers won't bother with; they simply cut their losses.

In the US you are also paying a bit extra for the added security of a replacement guarantee- provided you chose a breeder with a good one. Plenty of crooks of both sides of the ocean, but plenty of good people, too.

I've imported and bought locally within the last few years. I own a Bandit vom Wolfsheim daughter right here in NY and paid $1500...and I drove and picked her up. I'm happy with her and have no doubt she is schutzhund material...the rest is up to me:-)
I imported a Harro von der Staatsmacht x Lena von der Staatsmacht daughter. She was 5 months when I contacted breeder about her. She is now 9 months and she is all I could ask for. Can't wait for the weather to break! She cost me 2100 US....her price alone was 1100 euro.
I bought a Jimbeam vom Talka Marda son for 2000 shipping included from Washington State. He is going for his schutzhund 1 this spring. He will be well known if I don't screw him up:-)

I'm happy with all my choices and pay homage to the honest and ethical breeders I've dealt with here and abroad!

3000-4000 thousand steve1......

by sjbo659 on 21 February 2011 - 16:02

I don't know how others decide on prices but there is a saying in the Bouvier community that if you can buy one for less then a thousand run the other direction. Now that may just be a means to keep the prices up but when you look at all the factors to just get to a good litter then it does make sense if your a responsible breeder. I have been seven years since we last had a litter. We could have had them and sold the puppies no problem but it would have been becuase I took short cuts and didn't care about what I was passing on to the breed which is not how I want to be remembered. I am not now or ever have been a puppy mill so money is not even a thought withing the equation. Our cost far out weigh what we will ever make on a litter. Costs are based on many factors. The dogs used in the breeding, what do they have to offer to the breed in general, costs associated with that breeding, ie, vets, testing, x-rays, showing in confirmation or working dogs competeing. All the out of pocket expenses one has to even find out if his dog is worthy of carrying his or her genes forward within a certain line of dogs. When all of that is determined then you price your puppies accordingly. This is just my two cents.

An old nag downs just as many oats as a champion....
An old horse traider told me this many years ago. I saved what I thought was enough money and was determined to buy a horse that day........... He refused to sell me anything, but instead told me to come back when I had saved about double. I followed his instructions and in a month had enough to buy a good horse. That was some of the best advice any one can give.....and it cuts across all areas of life.

To the Hobbist......complainng about prices.....
Save up your money and get a dog you can be proud of - and in the mean time, study so when the time comes you will know what you're looking for.

KCzaja - very true - guarantees are very hard to come by in Europe.
