Modulus Rex moderator comment: In the meantime, even without a specific prohibition of malicious meddling with pedigrees, Terms of Service No. 4 states as follows: "Always be respectful of other users, the system, and the moderators. We put the system online in good faith, please use it in good faith."  That can be applied to the pedigrees portions as well as the forums.

I think I can see both sides of the issue now.

Personally, I don't like the idea of anyone going in and changing anything on my dogs pedigree.  For example, many people import dogs but continue to  list a dog's foreign registration information even after they have registered the dog with AKC.  That's completely their perogative, and someone else should not go in and change it to AKC.  Same thing with titles, someone might not want certain titles listed on the pedigree, for whatever reason, and again, that's their perogative.  So for me, I would rather see additions like registrations and titlles added to the comment section for that particular dog, rather than onto the pedigree section. (unless of course, the owner of the dog is OK with it).

On the other hand, many people are adding dogs who's ancestors are not listed on this board.  They have to be able to add those ancestors, or they won't be able to list their own dogs.

I agree that since this is not an official breed registry, you cannot hold the administers/moderators accountable for pedigree information.  I also agree that there is no way any moderator or administrator would have the means or the time to verify who owns who or who has permission to make changes to what dogs.

I think we just have to continue on the honor system, and remember to double check our dogs information every  once in a while to protect against gremlins - well meaning or othewise!!

***Nona: I know you did not change the information, just added information, though it did cause me to think about other possible situations, so please don't think I am implying you changed registration information on that dog.

animules
use any word you like but  tampering means something being changed without the owners permission added or deducted, However it is really no big deal my dogs will be off here in a short while so i will not have any more thoughts on it
and as another has already told me, but where is this place on a pedigree that you can see of any changes tell me and i will  take a look before i delete my own Pedigrees
And i have also read that any changes will be tracked, BUT the owner of the dog who's pedigree has been changed or messed with will never know who has done it  so that is irrelevant
However my participating in this thread has certainly livened it up a bit

No one can change a pedigree without the user name and IP being logged.

History of changes. Check the pedigree below.

Modulus Rex moderator comment:  Steve1, the "History of changes" is listed directly above the name of the dog and is available for anyone to see (deletions of entire pedigrees are a different story.  They of course can't be seen, but are logged by site administration).  Here's an example:

Steve1,

Wrong, user names are tracked so any member can see who made the change.

People these pedigrees have been online for at least 10 years and the amount of tampering is almost nonexistent.

See mole hill, lets make a mountain of it.

Hello Everyone,
I do not mean to derail the pedigree issue but, I would like to make a couple of other suggestions for this website.
  1. Create an off topic forum area - if people had an alternative place to discuss the weather, sports, other animal issues or misc. topics it would clean up the number of OT issues in the general section with out the mod's having to play the bad guy and  the members feeling cut off.
  2. Create a help section in the side bar to help users navigate thru the site. Some examples would be posting pictures and adding links to pages.
  3. Have a suggestions area.
I realize that this site is supposed to be about dogs but sometimes people want to talk about other topics and feel comfortable talking to their PDB internet friends. JMHO.

C

PS.  I think a section for elbow ratings, or DNA testing would be great information to have in the pedigree as well.

However the name is spelled wrongly it should be ORRY von haus ANTVERPA not ANTWERPA as is put on the dogs name
