Moderators still use their regular user names.

by Bob McKown on 24 February 2011 - 15:02

Suggestion

1 All registered user must post under there real names with active email address at the bottom of each post.(no hot mail or gmail address accepted)

2 All moderators should be prohibited from adding to any post other then to acknowledge a failure to adhere to T.O.S. and locking threads.

3 Any moderator adding to any posts must use there "screen name" and not allowed to moderate or edit said posts that they contributed to.

Just a couple of good suggestions...

Excellent suggestions Bob, I'd support all of them.

I agree with Bob with the exception of the email.  I think that the email addy should be known to the people running the site but I do not want my email posted where it can be spammed.  With that said, I think it would be beneficial to have everyone post under their real name.

I have an issue with the email addy suggestion.  My main email IS a hotmail account that i've had for 12 years.  I don't use service provider email accounts because I don't like to change when I change providers.  And my hotmail account IS my name.  I don't have an issue using my real name.

I like those too, except the email.  My email is also hotmail, has been for a long time.  I used to use my "real" email accounts because hotmail was limited in files sizes and things, but now that's not an issue.  and with moving and even when I didn't move, my broadband carrier was changed, thus my email was changed and I got sick of always changing, so I just stick with hotmail.

TOS states -- "PDB site administration also reserves the right to share e-mails"

The above statement is the only part that I disagree with, as an eMail is a personal account of an individual and, thus, not connected in any way to the PDB.   Other than that, I think the "new" TOS is reasonable.

Also, the "sharing" of eMail messages appears to me to be in conflict with parts of the PDB Privacy Policy.

To the gentlemen who was wanting to know about who put his pedigree up on the site. I am not sure but when I added my dogs to the pedigree data base I had to add the parents etc to fill out the form completely so that I could show the linage. There is also a part in the form that asks about tests done (OFA). Is it possible someone listed their dogs pedigree and information that also corresponded with your dogs own pedigree. Perhaps a sibling or if you have bred your dog then one of his prodigy is on here which could explain why your dog is listed? The only reason I would be upset about ofa rateing whould be if one of my dogs failed and someone posted that deliberately to make my dogs look less then stellar. Personally myself, I do not hide facts about any of my dogs and if one had bad hips or elbows I would not use it in a breeding program anyway so it would become a mute issue for me. We all go through our bad dogs to get to the ones we want to carry foreward in a breeding program and the person who says they have never had a problem is not being completely honest to begin with. There is nothing to be ashamed of if you end up with a dog that can not pass OFA (happens to all of us) as long as your not trying to promote the dog or breed to it. Just my opinion.

I have no problem using my real name or staying to one screen name.

I have no problem having an email registered to the site but I prefer to use one not attached to my business.

If you can only have one screen name/ forum identity, why do mods get two? I feel they should be just as known as any of us and that not knowing who they are while they evidently know each and every one of us is not right.

I must say, I don't like the e-mail showing thing Bob suggested...my ex-husband is already stalking me on facebook. jackie harris
