No you want to control others posts by allowing the thread starter to be a mod, but people think the mods are biased. Do you think giving that kind of control is going to fix anything?

"Give the originator of the post the abality to edit or Mod there own threads... You still retain abality to Mod the thread and lock it or delete it and you give the owner of the htread the abality to try to keep order and civility on there own."

No you are saying you as a member should be given admin. You want to control conversation, but are mad at mods for trying to keep things on topic.

I can't get over the control conversation as it is the underlying issue and that is control. It is all about lack of CONTROL.

I relent...I repent... I,ll be a good little drone... and drink the kool aid.

The new T.O.S are spectacular and will make this a Utopia of the cerebral...

I,ve seen the error of my ways and will never be divisive again... Your right i,m wrong...

P.S

I love you...

We are not going to give 200,000 members control over who posts on their threads. Name one forum in the world that allows members to do what you have suggested. One forum, Bob.

I am done with this and if you have legit questions I will answer.

If you feel so stongly about this please email Oli. I have no say in those decisions.

I do think the ignore certain posters option would work wonders for a sense of "personal" control. Members should realize they don't own threads they start on here, Oli has a soft license that we have given him when we agree to the TOS.

You win

I'm member of a few other forums that give the option to ignore users or entire threads. One click and you never have to see anything that person posts again, while others are still able to.  These same forums also have a place to click and see all the usernames that have posted from the same IP address. In a sense, the members moderate their own experience. Some moderation is good in my opinion, but too much can lead to a worse state of affairs. The internet is a serious place, and trying to exert control, be it your domain or not, does not always lead to the desired outcome.

Good idea Beetree.

We've (Gsd) sent Oli a PM asking about this feature

I just checked and nowhere in the new TOS does it state you can't tell jokes.

So I am assuming as long as a joke doesn't violate the existing TOS, then it is OK to post an occasional joke.

 Post from same IP.

IP is singular per home or is it for a group, say a block of houses?

Adi,

I get an IP address from my internet provider.  (IP = Internet protocol)
If I connect my computer to the modem and turn it on, it gets the address via DHCP (random) or static (fixed) depending on my computer settings - from my provider. (DHCP = dynamic host connection protocol)
If I connect a router to my modem - it gets the IP address from the provider and multiple users connect through it.

So you and a friend could bring your laptops to my house and all three of us would be using the same IP.

Or if I have my computer set to DHCP, I might get a different IP address by turning it off and on.

Lee
