+1 to eye contact & bonding. Aside from name, imprinting the "void" commands (pee) etc., is also important to me. As well, I want to engage puppy in lots of play with a tug or a squeek toy. Thrown in the mix, is "come", "sit" & "find" (all done in micro-mini exercises).

Alrighty, let's pick our brains just a little more? OP, (not saying anything wrong) but "teach"? Under the impression to teach a "command" I could be wrong? And second, my opinion, but "teaching" bonding? Bonding is like breathing................ not taught. If another dog was there and not a human the pup would bond and take its place in the pack structure. If a cat, horse, donkey etc. was there it would bond with that.

My perspective is if you can teach a puppy to fear you or hate you, which I feel that you can, you should, before you do anything teach him to love and trust you.  After he knows how to love a trust me, I will teach him to sit, here, plautz, and vuss.  But I teach my puppies FIRST TO LOVE AND TRUST ME hence the answer I gave.  Shoot, even when I get a new adult I typically won't ask a danm thing from them for 5 days.  If it is a dog I will keep long term in my home, I clear a few days to do nothing more than bond or hangout with the newbie just to get to know eachother and develope trust.  Trust goes a long way and is easier to get in the beggining than to try and recover later.

That I am the source of all "Good Stuff"; the tasty food, the cool toys, and that I'm exciting and fun to be with.
