Plautz is the german word for "down" All my dogs are trained for down, Pfui( no)and Voraus(go) in german
I am not sure what Vuss is though!

Hope that helps a bit!

Not correcting you, but maybe you're thinking of FUSS (foos), for heel? PLATZ,  for down and VORAUS, for go out.

What's funny is when my three dogs are together, (one English, two Dutch) and the commands get swapped around. Service dog was Dutch also.

what is the first thing you teach your pup .. Intersting posts .. IMO... I am surprised no one replied  ::  .. "LOVE" ... pure and simple...  LOVE --- the pup learns the first moment you interact with it ...  a loving touch , a loving look , sense of love and peacefulness/calmness .  a sense that  no matter what - it will be  safe , secure and cared for. the first to teach .. IT"S LOVED

Awwwww! So do you "teach" people to love you? ;)

by StephanieJ on 11 March 2011 - 20:03

Reading through the responses, it seems that getting peepee and poopoo on command is running just about neck and neck with bonding/being the source of all good things/and "love". Interesting priorities.

Well when you pick your pup up from the breeders or airport what is the first thing you do? "Go potty".

But you have first most likely done something to make the puppy view you in a positive light-taken it out of the crate, given it some sort of physical affection and/or a food reward .

well .. as a matter of fact ..  , respect , loyalty , commradeship , trust, fairness  .. etc etc. etc.   .... are ALL EARNED  .. and might surprise some .. not a given right .. aside from the kibitzing .. It is my hope that everything .../ EVERYTHING related to canines [ started with wolves thousand of years ago .. they affected us more than we did them BTW] is predicated upon the RELATIONSHIP we have together.. ALL TRAINING / TEACHING is just a manifestation of that !!hopefully that starts and is based upon love...  so what kind of relationship can  exist without LOVE ,   first ?? from mother to daughter , father to son , brother to brother ,,,, friend to friend ?? TO ME...  having a canine , is a serious , very very very serious matter.- aside from the ribbing ... believe me ... i have trained with hundreds in my classes that deep down inside have no love for canines , animals , or people for that mattter .. ..they train exercises , like the dog was a robot !!. don't forget .. LOVE should be above all else .. Now I will share something to you from experience [ and being  credentialed ] - so read ,  and let your consious be your guide ;;; " how someone treats their dog is EXACTLY  how they will treat another person ---- " that is a  psychological proven point  !!! uncontestable ,,, !!.. So side stepping a human realtions seminar here .. my advice to some - decide for yourselves .. If  someone  does not treat an animal with love /if   someone does not treat you with love at the first onset ... run for your life .. BTW .. every dog i have flown in from Germany or that i have picked up in Germany .. is made to feel LOVED first ... potty is secodary !! besides ,  most pups have already peed in the crate .. the dog needs to ber made secure and safe in your arms before placed onto a foreign surface .. with airplanes blasting all around !! it is stressed just having left all the pack members and it's mom !! how does a baby feeel leaving it's mom's arm .. the other person starts by trying to make the baby secure and at ease ..yes .. they don't worry of the baby peed it's diaper , do they .. please .. let's be humane to our pups too .

Alpha, you're pulling my leg, right? The topic is "first thing to teach a puppy". You cannot "teach" a puppy or a person to love anything. Yeah, anyone that gets a pup, they show it attention before and while it is going to the bathroom. A teacher can "teach" ethics, but it doesn't mean that the students will be ethical. I'm busy right now, but I'll be back later.
