Hey, Steve. Just trying to get the training board going. I posted a bunch of questions that I often see on here by posters. I guess I would say I differ from you. I try not to do the routines too often. Many times I want to spend more time on certain exercises than others. I don't know that I'm a big fan of pattern training. Half the people I train with do, the other half don't. What advantages do you think it gives doing the routine everyday?

B....5-6  days a week....short sessions 2 times a day:-)
C....once a week...maybe....might have to put on the sleeve to work my own dog!

Maybe you guys are misunderstanding me. I meant how often do you do the actual trial Pattern? Not simply working on B and C.

If I have a trial in say mid - November, I'll do the whole routine the first of October to see where our weaknesses lay.

Then I break it back down to it's componants and work 4 to 6 times a week for Phase B and 2 to 3 times a week for Phase C, small sessions on our weak points.  Usually a session is no longer than 10 -15 minutes for my experienced bitch.

Then around the end of October I'll put the routine together again usually without any 'off leash' componants, I still want to be able to immediately correct and address if anything goes pear shaped.  See where we are and again break the routine back down into componants and work on the pieces.

In the final days (say 4 days before) leading up to the trial, I put her up and there is no training just lots of anticipation for our next 'Training Day'.  Then when the trial comes I try to go out there like it's just another training day so my nerves don't break her concentration!

Yeah, right! Just another training day!

I said "try" I didn't say succeed!

I think I do the routine more than most people mainly because I get nervous trialing (in anything).  For our last trial (which was not SchH but the obedience pattern is basically the same), I did the B routine two times each day for the week leading up.  Sometimes I did it twice in a row, other times I did it once and then again later that day.  I was also taking my dog to various places to do it, since I've never once had the advantage of a "home" field in any sport I've trialed in.

In SchH we have yet to do a full C routine like a trial.  We've had many sessions with much more work, but nothing that's been just a full trial routine.  For the protection title my dog does have, which is on a suit, we only trained twice on a suit before the trial, and one of those was doing the trial routine.

Don
I mean i train Izzy 7 days a week when i take her for a walk, I got along country roads very little traffic, I can be walking along the road i tell her to Sit or Down, If i get to the GB superstore car park i do a little Obed 5 minutes then a sit and i walk 30 paces return then i walk and down her walk on 30 paces then call her to sit in front release her with the ball and off home
I only do C at the training club
In my garden i sometimes put a hurdle up and let her jump not often through
At the Club i sometimes do the usual Pattern training for ScH, another time i just walk ON leash in a series of left and right turns and circles etc, then i do a bit of Blockwork and thats it.
If the Dog does one excerise correct that is finished i do not repeat it, if it does it not so good i do it again until it does it right then finished i do not repeat a good phase in an excerise. Meaning i always finish on a good bit of work, then i say finish and she gets the ball
Of course throughout the work she gets her Ball as well, but always at the end with the Finish word
Ae i said elsewhere i use a Magnet ball i find it very good and she loves it
