General rule of thumb....if you don't need it don't introduce it into
your training..You will have to phase out later and this is an interruption
that takes time and now the dog has to think too much...

Dogs love toy's...and should want to play with a chewy as a reward.

When I teach the... sit ..stay.. stand.. and lay down... basic tasks I use the edibles.
Does not seem like a conflict with toy reward.

real simple , reach in back pocket and pull out toy, instead of front right pocket for food !  LOL !!

That would work, but I keep my balls in the front.

Out of the mouths of babes....

I think she is saying it can be seamless, once you establish your positions
you just switch....There very well may be no conflict. But puppies are a bundle of Id..
And food is a primary reinforcer. At that stage anyway, so don't rock the natural.
One day Don, your mother lets you have milk the next she is giving you a bobby
for a replacement....next she is telling you need to get a real job and stop playing
with your deadbeat friends......life is hard knocks sometimes.
