Yes, I agree....and I paid a lot of money for that.  I would have been better of having some person off the street run around where I told them...and then the prong thing really set me off.

Hedi,
this is the topic............ My dog is not yet barking at the helper. So...that is what the focus was.

Correct me if I am wrong, your dog is now 7 months old and is not barking at the helper
even though you have tried this several times at your own club....nothing?

Let me ask you this when does your dog bark? Because if you can tell me that I can help you
to get that dog barking like like a junk yard dog.  Without a collar, the helper is only there to help.

I can tell you I think this dog is a little sweety pie, but I can sure bring out the
dark side. The 7-8months is where your dog will grow like a mushroom.
Like children they time to rest up.
I have never seen a dog not grow into there genetic potental.

I love puppies......

I am curious, please tell me more.  She will bark in her kennel when a stranger enters the yard or in the car when someone approaches.  She also will bark and yip for me to let her out.....but that is a yippy bark wanting to get out not in any type of defense. The sounding in the car and in the kennel are more recent developments in the three weeks or so.  This tells me there is some maturation going on.  She has the genetics.  As far as barking being a training emphasis, it has not been at this time.  More grip and targeting, so why would he expect her to bark there (I did communicate this to the person)? This is what the person at the seminar keyed in on (the barking)...not what I was after.  I was after some new training techniques and to learn some new things, I was not there to correct any type of problem.  My concern arose when this person suggested the prong collar with my dog in the context of how he decided to do things.  This is starting to morph into an interesting thread.

Hedi,

"She will bark in her kennel when a stranger enters the yard or in the car when someone approaches"

3 places,.. very good......I would choose the most comfortable place, maybe the car
she  feels more secure with you..

if you have her siting in the passenger seat, let a helper approach the car in
a suspicious manner. Try to set it up so he gets close enough to get a defence
tone in her bark. The helper should hold it for a moment and than run away in fear of this
courageous GSD who would bite him if he tries to hurt her or her mom. When that happens and
that helper has fled away in fear of this courageous dog. Mom gives her dog pets and rewards
immediately.....She is so excited now,.... she did not know she had such an awesome, terrifying bark, and
could scare a big man away.....Happily she want to kick his butt....Later.

This is called building a dog.....Boxers (professional fighters) are brought up to win their fights which gives them confidence.
As the dog matures her fighting drive won't need much encouragement it will be very real.
Don't let anyone beat her down in the mean time, until she is ready for the pressure.
She will show you what she is made of when is fully grown...Love her and build her confidence.

Do this once and give her a few days to think about it. Don't keep doing it.
The first time she sees the power of barking to relieve the pressure.
....it is good to wait awhile...she won't forget.

There are 2 ways for her to relieve the pressure...bark and hold....and the bite.
As you practice she will gain confidence in routine.  Grips will improve and she will be much more
regimental.
