I had the priviledge of judging a K9 Nosework trial this weekend.  It is a detection sport that is for civilians.  The odor for the beginning level is essential oil of birch and is surprisingly pungent.  A nice dog sport for people interested in detection work and looking for something different for their dogs to do. Link to the national site below.

I do Nosework with my GSD's. They love it and it is fun to train. Great activity.

I have seen places that offer classes - too bad none near me

Looks like a great thing to do - would love to see it make its way to the mid-west

It is big in California since that's where it started. We are having our first trial here in New England in May. There are a lot of "trainers" offering it but few who really know what it is really about.

I have dogs who love to Track, etc and with the space issues and time to lay tracks, etc, this really makes things easier and the dogs have to work their noses.

I just helped out judging the Oregon/Washington trial last weekend.  It was a lot of fun to watch all the different breeds.  I learned just as much getting to see all the different dogs and handlers work.
