ladyfrost, his senility must be setting in. don't waste your breath trying to explain desperation in trying to help a dog to someone who is always perfect.  my mistake, apparently dirt doesn't stick to anything, lol.

a cold wet nose?  yeah.  greasy?  don't think so.  maybe that's something you should look into.

you believe a guy in a lab coat with latex gloves when he tells you that dog food is "balanced" and dogs will do just fine on it.  yet another guy with a phd tells you that all processed dry foods require carbs to form the kibble and let it expand, and those carbs can be detrimental to dogs (and cats), but this guy must be wrong.

up until the last several years those guys in lab coats formulating dry food to meet aafco requirements didn't think dogs needed too much taurine.  now they're starting to think dogs need more taurine then they previously thought.  especially large breed dogs.  <---  that must be a lie!  dog food makers would never make a mistake like that!  surprise

and again, i never called your dogs shit feeders.  so find something else to nitpick on me about.

zdog...LOL.. its a conspiracy and we are all in on it.

uvw..i think i explained enough..i was a dedicated dog food feeder until desperation forced me to think outside the box, and sometimes thats what it takes to open your mind to other possibilities...the only thing I may do in addition to this is pull out my old hard drive and see if I can find old photos of my dog and post them next to him now...thats all.

LadyFrost- Your story is similar to mine- rescue dog that originally came off the streets -  thin, poor condition and allergic. I tried the top quality kibbles, kibbles with just one protein, kibbles with unusual protein (duck, venison), kibbles without grain, etc. and nothing helped. I am not a novice, as I've had dogs for 40 years and am very much into nutrition and health for both animals and humans. I knew about the raw diet, but was reluctant because I thought it would be too much work. I eventually went ahead and gave it try and the raw diet, along with some supplements is what helped my girl. No one can convince me otherwise. My son's dog, also a rescue dog off the streets, thin, horrible condition,  and he scratched constantly. THey of course ruled out the possible causes of itchiness, such as mites and they tried a few high quality foods over the course of a several months and there was no improvement in his itchiness. Finally they tried raw and within a month he was markedly improved. He now has the most beautiful coat I've ever seen and is no longer itchy.

People are entitled to their opinions and I don't fault them for it, but there is no way I will go back to feeding kibble. Just like I've been a vegetarian for over 25 years and will never eat meat. Many will call me a nut case, but it works for me and I don't care what others think. I am healthier than many of my friends the same age and the truth is that many of my friends who used to think I was a little odd have now switched to a vegetarian diet for health reasons and are now healthier for doing so. Do I try to shame meat eaters and tell them how foolish they are or that they are doing the wrong thing- NO! I personally think a diet with limited or no meat is better and that is my opionion, but whatever works for them is fine with me.

Use common sense what do dogs and K-9 eat in wild? never seen anyone cook their food.
Best to feed them clean pure natural raw food off course they like some veggies at times.

Last time I checked, my dogs weren't "wild."  Not getting into argument of raw vs kibble, just stating a fact:  http://wolfdog.ws/html/differences.html .

Now see, I think that is interesting about using the fact that wild canines only eat raw. Maybe it was the smell of cooked meat that began the transition from wild to domestic canine.

This is exactly what makes me so uncomfortable about many of my fellow raw feeders that I don't even want to be associated with them:  They become almost cultish, and act as if anyone who doesn't feed their dogs raw is a horrible person or doesn't "get it", or their dogs couldn't possibly be as healthy or as happy as raw feed dogs.  What a bunch of CRAP!   Nothing could be further from the truth.  To me, they are just as bad as those who represent dog food companies and say kibble is the only way.  There are plenty wonderful kibbles out in the world, and some not so fine kibbles, yet the dogs somehow manage to  not only survive but THRIVE on those foods.

FEED WHAT YOU WANT TO FEED AND STOP CRITICIZING THOSE WHO FEED DIFFERENTLY.

The dog is a predator, Though the animal has been domesticated that doesn't mean they are now omnivorous..I have fed raw since long before it was the in thing to do, to anyone that can follow this please pay attention. If a wolf raids a farm does he go straight for a grain bin cause he's feeling sluggish? Predators eat meat the vegtable mixture is a suppliment to replace the stomach and SOME of the contents that your dog is missing from its proper diet. Poultry is ideal, raw of course particularly in the growth stages to build the joints.Bone is vital to the health of a dog on a raw diet never weight bearing bones they can splinter.Of course this is not an easy thing to do and everything americans do should be conveinent. To give respect to the creature you are caring for, give them what they need by nature, Do not place human attributes upon them. They are a dog.The vet that said this shouldnt be a vet anymore.A dog on a proper raw diet is always going to be healthier than one that isn't period...
