Damn, he looks so sad.  broken heart

by Asja on 19 April 2011 - 15:04

I called the shelter this morning.  The lady I spoke with said that several people called about him, but no one has taken  him yet.   She said he is a great dog, mellow and quiet, he wants to be petted and everyone likes him.  She said he knows some commands, is neat and clean, and obviously was someone's pet.  Unfortunately his time is up by this weekend.    I am really, really, tempted.

I just got off the phone with the nice lady at the shelter too. This dog has no tattoos, no m/chip coming up on the scanner. Its nice to find a truly concerned shelter staff.

This is apparently a VERY nice dog! He walks beautifully at the handler's side on the leash, even down the aisle with dogs going ballistic on either side of him in their runs. He knows some commands and has no apparent temperament "issues." She suspects he has had some training, but of course, in the shelter situation, its impossible to learn how much training, and for what.

He needs to be OUT of the shelter by the weekend, as above, but the vet and adoption fees are covered by a concerned party, and if he isn't pulled or adopted straight out of the kennel, a couple of people have offered to foster till an apporpriate home comes up.

There isn't really a lot more we can do from where I am, 3000 miles away, but I will stay in contact with the shelter to monitor and share the progress of this dog towards finding his forever home. I applaud all the efforts of people who have stepped up, having seen the notices of the dog's plight here and elsewhere online, (the shelter has received quite a few calls since yesterday!) and strongly urge interested parties to pursue adopting the dog ASAP.

When I win the lottery, the process of saving the hoards of really nice GSD's and other working breed dogs, will be SO much smoother. Until then, we ALL really need to step up to the plate and help.
Look for more from my end in future...

Shelley I know someone who lives close to where that dog is. I'm going to shoot him an email and see if he can do anything.

A freind of mine wants this dog but she lives here in Ohio. All we need to do is to get him out of there and get transport to my friend. Can anyone help with the transport? Thanks!

There is someone that may be able to take him in Summerville,WV on Friday but she has to check to see if there will be room for him since she is not driving. She can take him as far as NW PA. Im hoping to hear back from her soon.
Thanks to anyone who can help free this handsome fella!!

My friend also told me that the shelter manager is going to contact her if no one else steps up to take him by Friday. Maybe someone closer to the shelter can give him a great home then we wont have to try to arrange transportation for him to get all the way up here to Ohio. She said that if he can find a permanant home in FL that would be great!! She is just very relieved that he is safe now!!!
She is waiting to see what happens by Friday.

At this point, he still needs a home. He is obviously an easy dog to place, once he's out of the shelter. Someone is going to have an excellent BF when they get this dog, but let's not just tell ourselves he is "safe" now and forget about him before that happy outcome is a reality.
That's how dogs fall through the cracks.
