Is this now acceptable?  I see it happening more and more, especially when you can get $1200 or more for a pup.

Yes there are many breeders who seemed to start out doing "right" by breeding proven adult dogs with hip ratings and titles, but who then slipped for some reason ($$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$) and started cutting corners, breeding untitled youngsters and making brags about their pedigrees to sell their puppies (granddaughter of Well-known vom Impressivo, son of Wowie vom Awesome) - they tout the pedigrees, get an impressive website set up and still sell puppies for as much as other breeders are selling their puppies from titled KKl parents.  I can think of many examples just off the top of my head, right now.  Won't list them though, that would be "bashing".

really is frustrating and depressing for those who do try to do everything right.  One just has to hope that people will ask around and look carefully before buying from these corner-cutting breeders.

I talk to people every day that purchase dogs like that.  I was recently contacted by a very nice lady that bought a puppy from a breeder from the same state (NC).  The puppy is now 2 years old and the lady wants to sell it because she can't handle the dog anymore.  She said the dog comes from top working lines from a very good breeder.  Come to find out neither of the parents were titled and neither had certified hips.  I asked her why she did not contact the breeder and ask if she would take the dog back and she stated that the breeder had no room at this time but the breeder told her she could sell the dog to another breeder.  Go figure.....

Some of our top posters and dog breeder / vendor on the PDB do this.  They have done it to test their male to see if he is potent to breed.  Sent the male off to a trainer and the dog couldn't be titled.  Yet, their website extolls the virtues of the dogs they sell as all being hip rated and titled.

To avoid confusion and specualtion I am not referring to any posters on this thread.  This is really nothing new.

Let me rephrase that;  shit in shit out.

$1200 is cheaper than most I've seen...maybe that's the limited reg. price. LOL

I wonder if the example in the link was an 'oops'. It may have been.

I'm not defending the breeders that the OP is talking about or any breeder that may fall under this topic. However, quoting "Shit in, Shit out" maybe be true, but the same applies to the opposite. Just because a breeder only breeds a pair of GSDS that have total and complete health certifications, could mean, "Quailty in, Shit Out". JMO

Last year we purchased a puppy from two parents that had complete health certifications. One parent was an import, the other parent was off of two imports. Both Parents were titled and had all certifications required for breeding. The results were, one undecended testicle and servere HD at 9 months old. I also found out that our puppy wasn't the only one from that litter with health issues.

I'm just sharing an example of what we experienced and sharing, that just because a breeding pair has all certifications for breeding, deosn't always means, "quailty begets quailty".

Absolutely agree Rutavenhaus.

Best dog I ever had came from a backyard breeder.
