Hadn’t meant to delve that deep but had good look through given Sites, Sunsilver. With respect to Tina, it’s easy enough to devise a new Standard (in part promotional and not penned till 1990?) with all sorts of lofty aims, but proof of the pudding … (Sentence, “Timidity, frailty, sullenness, viciousness, and lack of animation, impair the general character of this breed”, within larger context anyway, strikes for me a very odd note.) I can only speak for myself and really don’t want to be too critical but going by the wide variance in type for dogs portrayed, if not your own remarks and comments elsewhere, my general impression suggests it’s still far too early to characterize it as a Breed. I’m totally biased of course but, considering general goals, why would one not settle for a sound and family-friendly GSD instead? I don’t think there was anything to set straight, sueincc, but congratulations on your dog’s achievement. You may be mistaken though where a dog’s reaction to young children is concerned. It’s quite common for dogs (say those owned by elderly or childless couples) unused, unaccustomed or never socialized with children, to strike out under some circumstances. There are numerous cases of innately perfectly fine dogs mauling toddlers etc. Here, the dog simply didn’t recognize the child as such at all; merely a bewildering and threatening apparition coming towards it, arms waving and uttering strange sounds etc. You do make hijacking a part of a dog’s DNA/genetics sound like a piece of cake, Preston!

This is apparently your idea of a "FANTASTIC LITTER"... http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/user_comments/523411.html

Yup. Not going to apoligize for that. Gracie is my pup's mom.

For most it's not about the dog anymore it's about the money and the money will follow the fads.

Finally! Something you and I agree on, harddawgs!

Right you are, Sunsilver. Yeah, right-on, harddawgs, that and ego!

"Yup. Not going to apoligize for that. Gracie is my pup's mom."

But where are the working titles of any kind? You guys actually produce dogs that show no ability to work whatsoever???

What do you do, run them around a ring and say hey that ones the best he should breed?

What the heck? That's hillarious. You're breeding prancing ponies not German Shepherds!

harddawgs, if you research  GSD pedigrees, you will find many bitches that aren't titled. And please remember, that the AKC took a stand against Schutzhund, which leaves only obedience, agility and tracking as working title events.

There are many reasons why a dog or bitch may not be titled. Lack of time or money come to mind as major factors. Age/health of the breeders is another biggie. I am not going to go into details, as I do not own the bitch, and must respect the breeder's privacy.  Please note that Gracie's sire has his HGH as well as conformation titles. He also sired 4 of the 11 GSD's which competed at Westminister this year, including the one that took BOB and 3rd in Herding, and was the grandsire of a 5th.

Here is the OTHER side of her pedigree: http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/523413.html

'Nuff said!

Oops, goofed on that. Dallas has his HIC, not HGH!     Should have checked BEFORE posting!

"There are many reasons why a dog or bitch may not be titled."

Uh yeah, lack of effort, not recognizing the heritage of the breed and a few more "rea$on$" I can think of but won't go into.

"He also sired 4 of the 11 GSD's which competed at Westminister"

Just to let you know  the Westminster dog show thing doesn't really do it for a working breed.

Uh, yeah "'Nuff said!" kiddo!

What is a King Shepherd?

i have no idea what it is.  Im pretty sure it is NOT a German Shepherd Dog.  Maybe if you ask Oli, he will add IT and the shylow to the list of breeds.  then the fanciers of them can go on their own message board and leave this one to talk about     GERMAN SHEPHERD DOGS!

As far as I can figure they're oversized GSD's rebadged and offloaded to the US market, John. "What do you do, run them around a ring and say hey that ones the best he should breed? What the heck? That's hillarious. You're breeding prancing ponies not German Shepherds!" Want to discuss this further, harddawg, but in a rational, impartial way?
