To all  who don't see the difference between saying what CAN happen and saying something ALWAYS happens, I'll type very slowly.......the singular stories of "I know a dog who_________" are just as anecdotal as my stories/point about dogs I personally know who did have problems, which is what I was answering Beetree about,  as she had asked me why someone might not want a neutered dog for work. That's why. You can say everyone else is wrong, but that's why. Whether you think those people's reasons for not wanting them are valid or not, they are the reasons and they impact the ability of the dog to find a suitable home. There was no need for this ridiculous debate (which will never, ever end). It was a question, and I answered it. Didn't say NO ONE would want him neutered, merely said it's harder to place a dog like that. No reason for Molly to get all Molly-like.

I wish I remembered who on this forum had just told me about their phenomenal tracking dog who had to have surgery and is absolutely nowhere near the dog he used to be. The owner was really upset.  Maybe if that person sees this, they'll post. I also am currently trying to find a home for a 6yr old GSD who was working in the prison system as a detection dog....now spayed, can't find a tree in the woods even if she wanted to, which she really doesn't, because she's too damn lazy thanks to a screwed up thyroid, typical of a dog without all its parts, and now we get to find a 6yr old (who looks like a 10yr old) a home...going from a prison environment to a home should be interesting, but can't find an experienced home who wants a spayed , fat, lazy bitch for work...because she won't work anymore. We affectionately refer to her as "Prison Bitch" and if anyone is interested, she's a pretty nice dog, or most of a dog, anyway. PM me if you'd like pics of her.

As a sidenote, I hope all the men on this forum take mental note of who is all gung- ho about whacking off testicles....just sayin'. Gotta watch out for yourselves. Sure, today's conversation is about dogs, but it could be a slippery slope,  LOL. surprisecheeky

Goodnight, all. I have a short attention span and I'm bored of this now and all irate about something else entirely.

We interrupt this arguement to return to the subject at hand:
Let's try to find an super forever home for BOTH these nice dogs. They aren't getting any younger while you guys argue about parts they don't have anymore, and I feel certain neither dog gives a rat's patootie how many dogs anybody on this thread has ever titled.

Thanks GSDRColorado for coming back on and letting the forum know you would consider placing this boy into a working home. The price is fair and although he is a sch 3 everyone, doesnt mean he will find a home. A sch dog was in a rescue here and it took months to get the dog a home. He was 7 or 8. A title means little when someone sees the age of the dog and that he is neutered. Would you consider a LE? If so please pm me and I will contact a couple of depts looking for dogs. They have already worked with a rescue here and know that if the dog doesnt work out, has to be returned to the rescue.

Bhaugh, Don't they usually retire, or getting ready to retire dogs that is reaching about the age as this dogs?

A healthy K9 in good condition can work at 10 and then some. Depends on their duties.

If anyone needs/wants to see the dog(s) on video, or live on the internet, I will offer that service free (and opionion, if wanted..)

I am in Colorado near Denver... this dog is probably not too far away from me to the south. (Maybe they will agree to meet in the Springs??)

If he is sound, and is fed a species-specific diet, he can work and will be healthy well into 10..
I am working my 10 year old SCH3  DDR male... he loves to do everything and hasn't slowed down much..  you'd never know he was 10.

Also can drive the dog partway to any adjoining state, if the "adoption" is approved...

Some of the military working dogs are past 10. I say until the DOG decides they are too old, then they can work. Maybe not over and over the A frame, but why retire a dog that doesnt want to.

Still no takers, huh? Well, they are safe and well-cared-for while they wait, which is a blessing.
Generous offer, Denwolf. I hope someone just perfect pops up before too long.

I sent the rescues link to a friend who places dogs with LE. They are looking for a scent detection dog so the female may work. BUT I still have my doubts that either would be placed with a LE agency. Most rescues Ive worked with will not place a dog in a LE situation or a sch home. Had the ad stated a working home then I would be more positive. Guess we'll see.

the hard part for me to understand is that someone had this dog for a few years, they want to build a boarding kennel. It would be very easy to isolate the dog from the boarders, but they just dump him. How does one just dump a dog that has been part of their life.

so what if he doesn't like other dogs. if one runs a boarding kennel, they are going to run across many dogs who do not like other dogs.
