Subject: Requirements for collecting/using frozen semen for litter applications   Dear AKC, I have difficulty with one part of your criteria for collecting and using frozen semen to produce an AKC registered litter.
Am I correct that there is NO signature required from the stud owner to provide owner's signature ON THE FORM to register a litter produced by frozen semen, from said stud dog which is not owned by the litter owner/ breeder, as is required on the paper litter applications?

Only a signature from the SEMEN Owner is required?  This doesn't' make sense to me.

It would seem to me that anyone taking in a stud dog to collect and freeze semen, would be required by AKC to have permission signed by the stud OWNER to do so.  I understand that a non owner MAY not be the stud dog owner, and can still own the semen.
But as a safety check and balance that the stud dog was used with permission to be collected, granting stud dog owner's permission for use of said semen to the semen owner, why don't you require the owner of the stud dog sign the litter application as well?
AM I incorrect in that assumption?  Or can anyone take a dog in to have him collected without the owner's authorization to do so and register litters from this stud without actual consent of stud dog owner.   I do note your requirements on page 3 and 4..., however, this does not prevent someone collecting and registering litters from dogs, and selling pups from same, without disclosure to potential clients that this could be a problem for registering the pup at a later date, in the event someone MAY LATER complain about that particular puppy or litter.   It would seem there should be a place on the litter application for either the stud owner to sign his consent for the litter, when using his stud dog's frozen semen, OR request that owner of semen SEND IN the signed consent form, given by owner of stud that was used at the time of collecting the semen owner's NON OWNED dog, at the TIME LITTER APPLICATION IS BEING SUBMITTED.   Stud owner does have to give authorization of their dog's use when registering the litters online.
Why is that not the case with frozen semen as well?
I'm baffled...
Am I understanding this incorrectly?? Please advise.  Thank you.    Sincerely,
Jean Schrader

Subj: RE: Requirements for collecting/using frozen semen for litter applications
Jean,

The requirements for collecting frozen semen is the owner of the dog will have to write a letter of transfer of ownership of the semen to the person who they are authorizing to own the semen.  This is not a form letter AKC have, its a letter written from the owner of the dog or semen owner.  In this letter it will have the dogs name & his registration number and the key word in the letter will be Transfer of Ownership of Semen.   In the letter the owner will state they have authorize transfer of ownership of the semen to whomever, and the number of breeding units, and the date of collection of the semen to this person and all owners of the dog or semen will sign this letter.  The reason why I am also stating semen owner, if someone has semen he or she can transfer semen to someone else.  When they are first getting the semen collected and transferring the semen to someone the owner of the dog should be the one to show the dog certificate proof  of ownership and give the letter of transfer of ownership to the facility where the semen will be stored.   The facility will send AKC a collection statement showing that person as being the owner of the semen.   This letter is for their  protection and also will give authorization to the person who is purchasing the semen to sign the frozen semen litter application as being the semen owner.  When the facility sends AKC a collection statement we will make a file for this dog and all correspondence and collection statements will be filed and whenever a person sends in a frozen semen litter application we pull the collection statement to see who the semen owner is and also subtract the number of breeding units used for that particular breeding and the date of collection.   AKC keep track of frozen semen activity.  If you still don't understand please let me know what you still need to know.

In my case, I was simply stupid. Live and learn.  I had worked with the breeder before and I trusted them and didn't require deposits for the last two stud services with my Ridgeback. Not only did they not pay me, I believe they may of forged my signature on AKC papers for the last two litters. I have written a letter to AKC.
