We had a thread a while back on the same subject. Some answers are COMMON SENSE, no matter how much you don't like them or they sound...... so simple. Then, what is the dog going to be? To do?
Reiker, my 9 1/2 y. o. was groomed for a PDK9, so heavy obedience. My two females are in training for Explosive Detection, so very little obedience. Don't want them to look at/for me for everything work wise. Need them to work on their own as soon as they're out of the crate hitting the ground.

Arabella, now 1 y. o., is non trusting of strangers. (I don't mind that) and the bonds with my dogs are established early. At the strangers' appearance (even at an early age) she would bark, hold her ground or come to my side. Some might say she was scared? Not in my eyes. She sounded the alarm to the "pack" and due to her age, inexperience, being a puppy she comes to the "Pack Leaders'" side for security, safety. So, now she was taught who is still a "stranger" and who she is "FREE" to meet and mingle with.

My dogs are tools and they are my pets/family, not everyone else. And I determine who they can meet/greet/mingle with.

Teach 1st: NAME, that you are his/her EVERYTHING! Basic DO's and Don'ts'. Basic commands, (pertaining on the direction of training) For the wires........ you didn't puppy proof well enough. (Experience is the best teacher). Confidence, and the list goes on and on!

Good luck.
