So WHAT Debbie?  This is a discussion about schutzhund.   The fact is that in schutzhund, age minimums were lowered and the testing was softened to accomodate show line dogs,  so they could obtain titles easier and quicker.   That's simple fact and politics.  NOTHING about SS  "performance testing"  really tests a damn thing, it's a joke.

Duck, no one has mentioned the origin of Belgian Ring vs French Ring or Schutzhund or any other breed test, it was the origin of the breed.  Again, the topic of discussion was the FCI Championship for 2011.  Focus.

You can take this all over the place suei and many points I do agree with, but I entered this "stupid million times over" discussion to clear up 1 point. GUNFIRE WAS NOT ELIMINATED FOR SHOW DOGS!  They have to do this all the time for SV shows. Pure and simple FACT.  Go ahead and run rampant, I'm not being drawn in. : )

dilderino , you ask about the domination of malinois at the FCI world championships , I merely give you some reasons why it is so , they  are bred for points ., to perform tricks , bet they could also win worldchampionships in doggydancing ,flyball and frisbee , but when you talk to KNPV , IPO people in europe , they dont know where to go for a good pup or male to use , because of this

I know several good malinois , no doubt about that they are out there , but these are not the dogs to win the competitions , and not vailable in great numbers
friend of mine has a very good , older, fort oranje male , nobody uses him for breeding because the dog is a little headstrong , cant use that for points , sorry , but it is what it is

Yep, tested standing freely at the end of a close leash with people running around with toys and a bunch of other dogs with them in the ring.  Not free heeling, off lead or during a long down by themselves.  You don't want to bring the Performance Test bite work videos into play here do you?

by Duderino on 16 September 2011 - 20:09

Ahh, versatility.  All I care about is the dog gives me what I want, selfish bastard that I am.  For some reason you seem very concerned with my chosen breed,,,,,,,,,,things that make you go hmmmm.  Should my wife be concerned?

Gunfire rules are that the show leash (8-10ft.) be loose and the dog is standing on it's own not next to the handler and in many cases the handler is a stranger. No one is running with toys during the test. ALL dogs, no matter what breed, do the same SchH gunfire testing on a long down and free heeling.
MY ONLY POINT __ gunfire __  GET THE FACTS STRAIGHT.
I suppose now you will say that real schH trials are done with cannon fire instead of starter pistol. lol  : )

Since when has the Gunfire been taken out of the BH, A gun was fired when Izzy took her BH last year, and i will tell you after Sunday when Gina takes her BH if it is still on or not, but certainly when the last time i did it there was Gunshots. But they are of little consequence anyway Most dogs do not even blink. HOwever every dog got a dose of two lots of Gunshots once when heeling the other when another dog was doing the BH and your Dog was on a long down. and where i am doing the BH on sunday a railway track runs along 10 yards from the Trial  field Fence and trains go by every two minutes or so Passenger and Goods trains and they make one hell of a noise, So that is a good test for a young dog not used to hearing or seeing it.

Just because the malnois "dominates" the FCI IPO-championship doesn´t mean it dominates all areas, if so the majority of "real" workingdogs would be malinois, this is not the case. Also, if the best GSDs that are the top dogs in BSP and WUSV would participate I guess we would see more GSDs placing high. It´s also small marginals sometimes, last year a GSD placed 5th, this time it placed way below that. It seems the malinois often get a few points more in the obedience compared to many GSDs, does this make the malinois a better all around working dog? Nothing against mals, but is winning according to the IPO-rules equal to the best workingdogs besides IPO? It seems a little to early to say the malinois dominates this and that just by looking at which breed has most dogs placed 1-10 in the FCI IPO championship.
