The GS can no longer compete because 75% of the breed is not capable of this level of performance. Its sad, but nobody said life was fair....now before the split in lines, this breed could compete with any breed in working. So sad!

I wholeheartedly agree,,, the SV just keeps widening the gap and the fluff dog people just keep swallowing what they're cooking.  It really is pathetic and the videos of this year's BSZS just confirm it.  I can't believe that any helper who's worth his salt would even want to do the event, it's embarrassing what they ask them to do.  Running laterally on the "attack out of the blind" and stopping and moving sideways on the long bite, it truly is an insult to what the breed used to be.  Maybe if the good helpers just boycotted altogether and told the SV that they weren't going to do it anymore they might get the message.

Well, looking at the top 10 dogs I see 9 Malinois, and 1 GSD.  Looking at the top 20 dogs I see 15 Malinois, 4 GSD and 1 Giant Schnauzer.

I think it's pretty clear who dominated :-)

Wonder what the % of GSDs that will be at the WUSV were at the FCI.

It's kinda like UScA eliminating other breeds from winning,,,,,I mean competing at the UScA National Championship.  You keep believing that if it makes you feel better,,,,,my conformation champion can beat up your conformation champion.  You gotta be in it to win it.  Funny though that the Malinois owners/handlers that compete at the FMBB Championship aren't afraid to do the double and go to the FCI.

Hmmm, could this be the demise of the Malinois?  Now that it is getting noticed for being a good "sport dog," What's next? Will the mali people will be running around show rings with their dogs?   It is going to be a shame to watch this breed gain popularity and go down hill.  Could wind up just like the Shepherds and Retrievers.

Will we have to go looking for "old style" working line Malinois in the future?

by Duderino on 12 September 2011 - 02:09

I sure hope not, that's why I never want to see videos of Malinois on the local news.  Reminds me of the stat they came up with years ago about the Border Collie being the "most intelligent" dog.  Every goober that considered him/herself to be Mensa material felt they deserved one as a reflection of their self inflated IQ.

HMMMMM

This year will be my 1st UScA national so I can't say for sure but I'm willing to bet that I will see few conformation champions there.

The Malinois did score well at the trial.

That said, and with the qualifyer that I only "know" 1 dog who was in the FCI,
I think you would be hard pressed to find a more driven, dominant, "REAL" dog than
Sean O'Kane's Max. This dog is the real deal & will bring you as much fight as you want.
Equipment is your choice because he does not need it.

Max scored a 271 with an 88 in "C". I haven't talked to Sean so maybe there was a slow out or
an extra grip? (shouldn't that be extra credit?)

My point is...what are we scoring, and are we scoring what SHOULD be scored if we want to improve any of the working breeds?

Ahhhhh, more "for real" dogs.  There are reasons why dogs out slow or take extra grips.  It's the substance of the dog that does the work cleanly and still shows the strength of temperament.  The sport/evaluation has been around for more than 100 years however it has been softened somewhat of late but that was more to accommodate the show dogs (no courage test, no attack on handler, no gunfire in the BH) than anything else.  If you want more "for real" dogs maybe you should get into dogfighting or PSA, it's basically dogfighting with people in it.
