Since ALL GSD's alive today go back to the same foundation dogs, DDR and Czech dogs included, the difference between workinglines and showlines can't be clearly defined by pedigree. I guess we just have to use some common sense when deciding which "type" we own and pick one or the other or both. If one breeds for dogs that can be competitive at NASS, they would probably be considered showline breeders and so forth. How do the Germans make the distinction?

I don't think the mods or Oli are so bored that they are running around looking for ways to occupy their time. They are trying to improve the PDB is all. The other forums are still open for use if one doesn't want to use the new ones. It's your choice to make. If posters here would be more specific with their topic line, it would make it a lot easier to decide which posts to read or not. Talking about -my dog is - may not get as much response as - my dog is barking too much.

If I had a vote on how to make this board easier to navigate by eliminating unnecessary forums, I'd be in favor of ditching the off topic one.

We may not keep all these forums as I see the show line forum being popular and the working line forum being a flop. We will give this a try for a month or so and then make a decision at that point.

The split was made because we as admins want to give the show line people their own forum and had we only added a show line forum their would have been complaints.

We will not move threads for the first month and then we can re-evaluate at that time and make needed adjustments.

We definitely did not do this out of boredom, we have had about 400 steady users the last 3 days. With our high being about 600 to 700 users online during a few peak times.

I don't think the split will be all that helpful. We already share specific interest info on the GSD forum and those that do not want to read it don't have to. Nasty comments should never be tollerated no matter what subject or interest or breed. I really don't see what good it would do. Besides that would make those of us who have both wl and sl have to go through 4 different boards to see all the subjects. Although I do wish that more GSD people would use the GSD board rather than the all breed board when posting breed specific topics.

I'm not impressed with the separation of WL and SL forums.
They are ALL GSD dogs. The separation of lines has already caused enough problems within the breed and it's enthusiasts. I have both, I am all about both...and they are all GSDs.
*We don't need more separation, having two forums is practically saying that they are two different breeds.

GSD admin. That's interesting, if I were to have made a guess I would have gone for WL being the more popular and more used, but then again I always go tails when it's heads LOL. Thing is many are neither one or the other and are interested in multiple aspects of each, and I think trawling through that number of boards may be a bit of a drag, but we won't know until we try it.

Blitzen, with the new rules in place about 'personal attacks' those who like to make 'mean spirited' remarks will be stopped (if they were to continue) by the mods, will no doubt get bored, as they are not generally interested in getting involved in the nuts and bolts of the topic in any case.  So that issue may already have been solved.

It's interesting to hear all the different takes on this. I am starting to see both sides of the debate. I have a more unique "problem" - my dog is ASL and GSL; a hybrid of sorts. Where would she fit into the equation ? Be kind........

 I love all GSD too...

I think the new forums will be nice to keep threads more "on topic" to a specific venue...The GSD Forum is for ALL GSD and the WL/SL Forums for a more specific focus of interest....IMO I do not think it has anything to do with separating the breed. Just giving a more focused discussion  forum depending on your specific interests....Thanks!!!!

When I did the personal attack threads, that was a common theme. The show line people over and over spoke about the meanness and one-ups-manship of the working line people. The lack of respect because they liked something different. It became almost a common theme. A lot of people feel intimidated by a few members and if this helps people to post and feel comfortable in posting we will try to encourage that at every turn and to discourage the lack of civility and respect witnessed at numerous online forums, including this one.

We will not move threads at this point, let us see what happens in a month and then we can better judge what the next steps will be. If the new forums do not get used, we have no problem folding those forums back into the other forums.

We are not trying to make the GSD into 2 breeds, what we are trying to do is give each type a place to talk about the specific issues of each. We have all seen over the years-the massive struggle between both sides/groups. At times it became down right ugly.

To be honest, I think it's brilliant. There is an overwhelming amount of WL people on here. And as much as WL people state they are intrigued by SL topics, they do not seem so intrigued as to want to learn about the SL's. SL topics generally get over run by WL people posting their own version of what a GSD should be when the person had simply asked for a comment on an SL dog. I think that though this does seem to separate them a bit, in the long run the SL people will be more enthused to get feedback about SL dogs from SL people without the intervention of a WL person stating it isn't their taste and posting what is their taste. The GSD forum is still there, so if SL people want an all out opinion, they can still go on there and ask and browse the board for WL topics. But, when they want to be directed toward a particular opinion, they have that option as well.
