I agree Blitzen and I like what you said on another page about the way your dog was mixed. What about me? Mine are Am mixed with wl and DDR. I don't seem to fit anywhere. And to quote you " Be kind please".
I like the new forums and I don't think it is splitting the breed any more then it is already split. Good Grief Charlie Brown, that is just dumb.
I am going to read all of them since my interests are varied. But if I do have anything to post about showing since that is my thing, I will do it on the show lines forum. I think that is where I will get the most feedback. If I have something general to say, like OFA results etc, I will post on the GSD forum.
Oh yes and please keep the Off Topic forum, I think it is important just to go there and talk about anything besides dogs..................

Okay, too tired to read all of these posts but I just have to ask, does anyone honestly think that an internet forum has the power to split the breed? No the power lies in the hands of the breeders, the judges, associations, owners etc. Think about it, the showline vs. workingline debate has likely been going on long before this forum was ever created. Let the powers at be in charge of the forum do as they see fit to make it a comfortable friendly place for people to ask and be answered. If it doesn't go as they planned then I'm sure it will go back as it was. I for one am for the change as my time here is limited and more organization as to what posts are where sounds great to me.

Good morning,

The German Shepherd forum hosts three types of members, the working, show & new folks and good number of the latter havn't yet a sub ID within the GSD. Since I still consider myself partially new, I want to say it is very healthy for a new person to the breed to see Wl and Sl people interacting and debating on the GSD (work vs show), to me this debate was the most interesting, at the time I only had some idea about the GSD in general, I didn't know there were show and work, then slowly I learned something about both. I, at this moment reached a point where I believe the Wl is more correct in temperament, character, diversity & work ability, the SL is more correct in regards to conformation & endurance, I also think the show trend is exagerated in hind angulation (VAs) and lost much of the GSD diversity and work ability, but there is no better looking dog than a show GSD, its type, color, coat and the beautiful gait. Good portion of what I learned on this forum was due to debates between the show and work ppl. If there will be no more such debates due to split of forums, the new ppl will not have their right chance to determine which line suits them better and which line is more correct in a specific area through watching live hot debates between the show and work knowlegable members. Though many of the work ppl are not interested in conformation and do not give it its due value, some of the most beneficial conformation discussions related to performance were from wl members. Some of the most important information related to history of the GSD were posted by wl members, I say to the one sided members of the Show line, it is neither a gain nor a benefit to have a seperate forum and talk only to yourselves, it is also no fun, diversity within a (body) is healthier for all and for the breed itself.

You are much spryer in the morning than I, Ibrahim, well said and I couldn't agree more.
(about the WL/SL debates that is, I don't agree at all about the structure )

by Ibrahim on 06 October 2011 - 10:10

Red Sable,

Though we don't agree on everything you never belittled me even when I asked silly questions or made some (show line) minded comments and that is mature and it opened up my eyes and made me listen & think and re evaluate, that is why I'd love the work and show to remain in same frame for better understanding, we don't need more seperation, do we?

I'm taking this opportunity to go OT and say "Welcome back" to Blitzen!  Good to see you posting again!

I heartily second GSDtravels " "welcome back "dear Blitzen" ".

So then the new SL and WL are for the GSD people and not all breeds SL or/and WL ?

by Ibrahim on 06 October 2011 - 11:10

This is my understanding and I could be wrong !!

I also think the show trend is exagerated in hind angulation (VAs) and lost much of the GSD diversity and work ability,

Many many showlines can and do work. And I am not defending them because I am a showlines person cause many of you know different; I defend facts.

I agree with Leoetta about this forum creating a bigger split--in fact I thought about that after I had made my other post. No way does this database carry that kind of power especially since this has been going on for years and years already.

If a person wants to know what kind of lines to get the best thing would be to go to shows, trai9ls, training clubs and talk to breeders, trainers and owners. Hands on experience is the best. Seems like every time a newbie comes on here to ask that kind of question, it ends up in some kind of big pissing match.

A lot of people don't like change and if you don't that's fine--but at least say that and don't use a dumb concept that it will split the breeds farther. Speaking of change, I know a lot of people don't like the change moderation has brought. I personally think it's the best thing that could have happened to this board.

And no questions are dumb--that's how you learn. JMO on everything of course........
