Recently I purchased a dog with an American Show Champion grandfather Neumann's Jim. Originally I dismissed him because of reasons already stated here. When I dug further I found many more DDR, Czech, and KNPV, as well as WGR. Since Euro bloodline dogs were extensively imported to North America and bred for over 20 years now can it still be said they are so vastly different? Perhaps even an extreme outcross like suggested in this thread could prove beneficial to compensate for consistent linebreeding.

Some of you simply don't get it A "once in a blue moon" fluke doesn't mean that over time this type of breeding would have any benefits. MORE LIKE DISASTER!!! You can't take a half ass bred dog like American AKC showlines that have been bred for nothing but their ugly roach back looks and expect to bring this into any sound breeding program and expect benefits. As I said SH*T (negative) + anything = SHIT (negative) What traits would these American AKC showlines breding to the table other than there horrible cripping structure, crappy nerves and lack of courage??? Sure you had one that was awesome (so you say). But again an occasional "fluke" still doesn't mean you can successfully breed generation and generation of this garbage and expect good results. Almost all of these AKC showlines have been bred for what some say "LOOKS". I don't understand it but beauty is certainly in the eye of the beholder here. But seriously, I guess the next folks!!! Of course some will not agree with what I say and oh well.... But the breed was created as a working breed and that's just not what most of the American AKC showline breeders breed for. Also my definition of American AKC showline is anything that doesn't have European ancestory in first couple generations. If it's not by the 4th generation in my opinion, it's already been ruined. So if you have some outcross that has American bred (ie Misty of Dark Soup) LOL and then European stuff on the bottom, we are NOT talking about you. If your dog has good nerves and nice temperament from this type of breeding combination, consider yourself lucky. Your dog has traits of the better half of his pedigree and that certainly isn't speaking of the American AKC showline side.

Well said, they dont get it and never will! Again, this site is for serious enthusiasts who know german shepherds. This shouldn't even be talked about here. To talk about backyard breeder games go to a chat room for people who show and tell all day and know nothing of importance. luvczechdawgs said it perfectly!

LuvCzechDawgz, It is the German showlines that have the ugly roach backs. American showlines tend to have a slant back. Personally, I don't like either look and prefer a straight back, but to each their own.

Egsd, Just who the heck do you THINK you are ? goiing off saying that like we are all just crap, what a BS statement for you to make, shows your dedication level righ there for sure. This site from my understanding is for anyone who... Owns, Trains, Shows, Loves, wants to Learn about, or is Interested in German Shepherd dogs, NOT JUST FOR "SERIOUS ENTHUSIASTS WHO KNOW GERMAN SHEPHERDS" Shame on you for making a statement like that, So I suppose you were just BORN KNOWING IT ALL !!!! Never learned a thing from anyone hhh? Well I'm pretty sure you did learn from someone, how do you think others will learn, They come here and ask, just because they don't agree with you does not give you the right to get snotty ! well I guess you can but WOW talk about anti productive. Live in your little know it all world ok the rest of us will continue to seek the answers to VALID QUESTIONS with or without your PERMISSION !!!

You go, Echo!!!

by LuvCzechDawgz on 07 September 2006 - 19:09

Echo I don't think he meant it to be snotty. I think he simply meant it with deep conviction. I think by SERIOUS he means more along the lines of serious people putting good thinkings behind the breedings which does not include the American & WG showline crosses. Yep! Everyone entitled to their opinion. That's the purpose of the discussion forum. But let's get back to the topic of discussion without going into boxing matches

Bowing head appologizing.. LuvC sorry bout that just hit me sideways I guess as I am all for learning and education, It's in me to be that way as I have to hear BS statements daily here at the shelter, with comments like Pit Bulls are killers, and so on, some days I'm a little more sideways than others. today must be a bad one, Again Appologies... sorry.

Echo and blitzen, I dont claim to know it all, i'm not trying to sell a dog or gloat about anything. The breed doesn't need mine, yours or anyones silly ideas of crossing this and that. This is typical, everyone thinks they can make it better. Leave the breed how it was intended and there are no questions. A shepherd that is was well bred in the early 1900's was stable, protective, athletic and loyal. Whats wrong with that??? I said in my earlier post which you obviously didn't read I've owned all of them. And thank god I was fortunate to learn, so dont listen to me, compare the dogs and look at the founder and what they were originated for. It is a known fact, dont reinvent your own breed. Nothing I said is BS, you just dont want to hear it,thats fine. Stay on topic, dont attack me because you dont want to hear the truth. I'm not trying to put your dogs down,I hope you learn and the next dog you get will be of good quality. Its not about you or me its about the dogs...no ego please

by Egsd on 07 September 2006 - 19:09

Thank you luvczechdawgs, thats exactly what I meant!! I apologize for coming across snotty as well!
