Sorry for typing mistakes

Kenan, I wish someone would "get rid of" your friend.

by EchoMeadows on 18 September 2006 - 13:09

I don't know what's more horrifying... Bitches eating pups or BASTARDS bashing them to death. You must be kidding ! You know there are laws against doing things like that Kenan what is wrong with you ? why did you not REPORT YOUR FRIEND !! So long as practices like this are allowed to continue because no one gets layed out for it, then it will simply continue. Put a stop to it !!! REPORT YOUR FRIEND TO AUTHORITIES !!! That is if you have a shred of dignity ! As of rescent a guy who shot his dog because the dog pissed him off, He shot it in the head, which is considered here in the states an approved method for emergency euthanasia when an animal can not be moved without causing it further stress or pain. But not considered an appropriate disposal. Anyway this guys is getting sent up for a while for shooting his dog. Hooray a win FINALLY ! Do the right thing Kenan Report this NUT.

I don't think Kenan lives in the US, EchoMeadows. Maybe it's not illegal where he/she lives?

I think you guys are over reacting, Kenan never said in his post, the pups had their heads "bashed". Get a grip, culling is common practice and if you think any breed, including the GSD got developed with out this method, you are the "NUTS." You attack Kenan like he commited a crime, he obviously showed his displeasure at his friends choice to cull.

by amir on 18 September 2006 - 15:09

I am not sure that you guys from States could make any particular trait to resolve it. It is very specific situation and I am not sure that you have low regulations for that. If you have - let me show. I am definitely against breeding female with that malformation but we must examine separately every case and after that make decision and only owner have responsibility to decide breed or not breed. We must have eye in one - that is a thing of nature and nature could be very shocking for our stomach. And it is very thankless to advise someone like you try advise Kenan. I am sure that Kenan will do everythnig what is in his admissibility.

Kenan-- I, like you, find your friend's actions despicable, but, also, very curious. What did he hope to accomplish with reducung the litter? Was it just plain selfishness on his part--meaning, he didn't want the work and expense with 'unnecessary' female pups, OR, did he believe by reducing the litter there would be more beneficial milk (colostrum) for the two 'wanted' males---hoping for healthier, stronger pups? I'm at a loss as to understanding his motives. I'm sure if he breeds her again, you'll advise him on all you've read here. You're in a difficult position (feeling as you do). Would this man take the time and trouble to muzzle and help feed any puppy? If not, and your willing, maybe offer to take the extra puppies to raise. Perhaps a little remorse will kick in, and he'll do a better job the second time around. Probably wishful thinking there--good luck with the outcome.

Amir, Very well said on the part of natural selection, I'm very aware of it Thank You. Culling is no longer appropriate for this breed, I'm sorry if you have not yet got the kinks worked out then your doing something wrong, To say you won't get a birth defect now and then is obsurd of course you will, But proper disposal is to take them to the vet to have them euthanized. Clubbing was just a guess for all anyone here knows he may have drown them may have burried them alive, point is it's inappropriate for any individual to do this themselves, The appropriate action is to have the vet euthanize them period !!! I dare anyone to argue that as the APPROPRIATE.

by Blitzen on 18 September 2006 - 16:09

"Got rid of" suggests that these puppies were culled in a less than a humane manner.

I disagree. "Got rid of" means just that, your assuming how they were put down and it's none of our business anyway. Many breeders cull all the females in their lines, to prevent others breeding the same lines. Most people can't stomach it, I don't practice it myself. Couldn't sleep at night if I did. I have had one pup put down however. Medical reasons, mom kept removing from the whelping box, so obviously something was not right. It was a Sunday and I wasn't going to call the vet on emergency to put the pup down. I also didn't want the pup to suffer any more misstreatment from mom or to miss any meals. Prolonging it's suffeing would have been worse in my eyes, than "getting rid of it". It was done quickly and she felt nothing.
