4pack

Yes Echo. Euthenasia is always my first choice. I'm not some trigger happy fruit loop, waiting for the chance to kill a dog.

As I was not Implying... I don't think that's what Blitzen meant to imply eighther. I really like the both of you, Glad to see we all agree that Euthanasia is best way to go, When it's available ! I understand the availability Issue, Trust me I do. I too will say, I feel for anyone who has to take on that chore of expiration of any animal but will say I admire those who can do it swiftly when the animal's suffering. MY Respect to you for that.

Thank you Echo, it surely was not pleasurable. I know you were not implying that I liked what I had to do. This pup was the runt and I had been bottle feeding her for 4 weeks. I knew something was amiss when she didn't keep up with the rest of the litter. I just wanted to give her every chance at life. One day I noticed a change in her, when I handled the pups. She was in a tight ball, obviously in pain and I couldn't get her to stay on mom to eat. Mom wanted to remove her from the whelping box, twice she took her outside and tried to bury her. I cleaned her up and tried to bottle feed. Nothing, she wouldn't eat. Touching her caused her pain and she wouldn't relax, even in her sleep. I love my dogs and hope I never have to do that again. Pain is something I do not want to see anyone in, man or animal.

Blitzen meant that a sick dog should be put down humanely by a vet, not by the hands of the owner in whatever manner. And I don't want to know and am not asking. I don't know what is so dammed hard about picking up a tiny puppy and taking it to the vets.

Ok...lemme spell it out real simple and slow. 1 more time...Sunday vet closed, no emergency vet in my town, have to drive 75 minutes to nearest vet that will open for emergencies, puppy is suffering, I have to pick up child in 10 minutes, don't want or need puppy to suffer, don't want 11 yr old daughter crying in car for 75 minute drive, I did what needed to be done to cause the least amount of pain for everyone, except me. The End~

Question? Why is a needle more humane than another means of instant death? Because Blitzen says so, or because no blood is evident? Dead is dead, euthanasia isn't even instant. I have seen dogs not go down the first try, being euthanised. Not my idea of peacefull goodbye.

Maybe you'd better read your first posts, 4 pack instead of trying to spin this all around to look as if I'm the bag guy here.

I'm not spinning anything. I didn't want to go into every little detail on the post but as much as I have gone back and forth, I may as well have. My first post... I think you guys are over reacting, Kenan never said in his post, the pups had their heads "bashed". Get a grip, culling is common practice and if you think any breed, including the GSD got developed with out this method, you are the "NUTS." You attack Kenan like he commited a crime, he obviously showed his displeasure at his friends choice to cull. I was trying to back some poor guy, who did nothing, that you were coming down on. Yeah I am spinning...

by Kenan on 19 September 2006 - 07:09

Maybe I was not clear but to explain, those three pups were euthanized by the vet (they were not clubbed or anything like that, I would not "only" be p*ss*d off, it would have gone much further believe me). Unfortunatelly such practice is widely used here. People find it difficult to sell female pup and some do not want to give bloodline away to possible competition. Therefore, even if I reported it, I would be told to mind my own business since almost everybody is doing it. The only thing possible for me to do (I was informed about it when it was over) was to be angry with the guy. And yes, I do not live in US. I think Amir lives in the neighbourhood and he knows what people here are doing.

by Kenan on 19 September 2006 - 08:09

Howeever, the reason I went into all those details was to give the full picture of what happened and to get some possible ideas why the heck she ate those two remaining pups. I will deffinitelly try to influence and stop this female to be mated again. I even suggested that she is to be neutered.
