LOL, Shelly! The joys of rural living!  Early this summer, I asked my kennel helper to put something away in the garden shed for me, and THIS is what she saw when she opened the door!

Fortunately, the only snake in my part of the world that's poisonous (massassauga rattlesnake) is an endangered species, and doesn't live this far south. The two snakes in the picture are a garter snake (top) and Eastern milk snake (bottom). The southern variety of the milk snake mimics the deadly coral snake!

You gave the stink bugs BACK??? WTF?? Someone was keeping them as PETS?  Heck, I squish the suckers on sight! They are always wanting to come indoors to overwinter, and I HATE the darn things! I'm normally tolerant of creepy crawlies, but draw the line at those gross-looking stinky bugs! They freak me out when they fly around the house.

I am now down to two dogs, both GSDs. I am thinking of puppy raising a service dog this fall, but have yet to do anything about it.

Currently, I have 3 boarders in: a Sheltie, a very large Shitzu, and a very sweet old yellow lab cross. His owner says he used to babysit the kids for her when they were young. He wouldn't let the youngest ones go up the stairs, for fear they'd fall!

A couple of weeks ago, my helper found two baby deer mice in the garage, and went all ga-ga over them. Poor babies didn't even have their eyes open yet. I told her to leave them there, in the hopes momma would find them. I was also hoping they'd obligingly die if she didn't.

The REFUSED to die. After 8 hours they were still alive and kicking and trying to nurse from my fingers. I melted.

I got some baby formula (best I could do on a Sunday evening) mixed it with yogurt and corn syrup, and began feeding them. I was thinking of getting some kitten or puppy formula, but when I found out what that would cost for a single container of the powder, I balked.

I made some phone calls, and found a wildlife rescue that would take them, as they obviously weren't doing very well on the baby formula mixture.

I am SUCH a sap! But my kennel helper LOVES me.

(Hides the mouse traps she's set in the kennel so no one can see them....)

Snakes... can't understand why everybody wants to kill them, the non-venomous ones anyway.  We have beautiful milk snakes here and about a month ago, a neighbor was having a fence installed and her contractor chopped one to pieces!  Pissed me off!  They don't hurt anybody and they clean up the bugs and rodents.  I could understand if it were a copperhead (rare sighting around here) or rattler (no habitat here, but they can be found one county to the north), but milk and garter snakes?  I just hate to see people kill things "just because".

I agree Travels, the same with bats, I always point them towards the door  when they are flying helter skelter around my house.  I love anything that eats bugs and rodents. :D

I personally own one GSD and one kitty who thinks she is a GSD... I don't think I could get any more - not only would I get murdered, but they like to be petted at the same time... and I only have two hands. Teeth Smile

We live with a yorkie/shih tzu mix, 2 *stupid* cockatiels and a tank of fish though.
