Redsable, there's no shame in giving someone the benefit of doubt.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Baby Eagle, that's an awfully high horse you've got there...mind if I pet him?

For the record, I DON'T hate Helser--he's not important enough in my life to expend that much emotion on his behalf.  I don't TRUST him, I don't BELIEVE most of what comes out of his mouth (or through his fingers, WRT written material), and I would sooner humanely euthanize a dog than put it in his hands, but he's brought that about through his own actions, words and videos.

I tend to support those who are the underdogs in most instances, and it is my nature to trust others UNTIL they breach that by their words and/or actions. Once that trust is betrayed, however, it is nearly impossible for me to ever fully trust that person again.  It's not a trait I'm proud of, but it's also borne of self-protection, and, just as fight-or-flight responses, it is innate.

But HATE Helser? Nope.  Never found him to be deserving of that much consideration; 'hate' is an emotion which, like love, is limited in supply and not to be squandered mindlessly.

Personal vendetta Jenn? Thought you said it would be best to abandon this thread. Oh Mylanta I'm sorry, I forgot who you are for a moment.

Vendetta? Against whom? Where would you get "vendetta" out of anything I posted?

It would've been best to not even watch his stupid (guessing...didn't watch them) videos and not give him the attention. Had no one replied, he would've faded back into seclusion, hopefully. He clearly craves this in a very unhealthy way, thus my suggestion to not provide him his narcissistic supply. "We" think we have the best of intentions, but it's actually fueling the fire and doing just the opposite of most people's intentions, thus the old figure of speech. Hardly anyone, if anyone is actually doing something productive about Helser, yet they're all pretty indignant on one side or the other...again, intentions and actions and results are very different animals. Not sure what the hell you're talking about. laugh  Do I know you? I'm sorry if I forgot.

Jenn, I'm sure a smart girl like you will figure it out in time.

by zdog on 04 August 2012 - 04:08

Actually, I'm a one man wolf pack, and it's more disgust and finding a person to be of very low character and not worthy of trust than it is "hate".  Like someone said a while ago on a different thread, "reputations are usually earned".

Well, at least Tim is a grown man defending his own and not some child or kid behind a screen name that eventually ends their life because of this mob mentality of hate for no apparent reason other than just that - a mob of hate.

Ya, good luck. lol

I understand that the internet can bring out the worse of us sometimes.  I don't think anyone including myself, is exempt from that.  One of the reasons I always post under my name.  I'm less tempted to get sucked into that if I have to own my words.

And I can understand that people do make bad decisions and sometimes grow from them, and yes, sometimes change.

But when we are talking about those that have no voice, be it animals, children, the elderly in some cases, I am going to err on the side of caution.  I  would not take the chance of putting an animal in the care of someone with a questionable past with animals then I would hire a suspected child molester to babysit.

Is that entirely fair to the humans involved?  No.  Is it the best for the animals?  In my book, yes.

Changing a reputation, one that is deserved or undeserved is hard.  I sympathise with anyone that is trying to change and leave their past behind them because it's not an easy thing to do.

But this board is suppose to be about the dogs.  And ultimately I would think that most of the people here would put the dog's interest first. If you want to help someone rehab their reputation great,  fine.  Just don't do it at the dog's expense.  Or even at the potential of the dog's expense.

Maybe he is the victim of some conspiracy to ruin him.  I've seen that in the dog world.  Most of us have seen that on this board.  But again, for me, when they are multiple allegations from multiple people spanning multipe years that is enough for me as far as placing a dog.  In situations not involving a dog I would be much more apt to let my own experiences be the judge.

And if I remember correctly this all started over the placement of a dog.  A rescue dog.  One that for whatever reason, we, as a society had already failed.

Ditto to Betty. You simply should not gamble on a dog's well-being. It happens all the time, unfortunately. I just heard about another one that turned my stomach- a dog with vet records strongly suggesting abuse, and the previous owner just went out and bought another one, and while the breeder (who has a good reputation) was warned by parties "in the know" about the content of the vet records, ignored it completely in favor of the almighty dollar. cheeky

Forgive, hell, forget if you want to, but give him another dog???  How many "coincidences" take place before people get a clue that there is something going on that isn't right. The average dog enthusiast, while they may get attacked for this or that, is not the victim of the volume of allegations like Tim Helser is.

Michael, I'm sorry, I don't remember or don't know what you're referring to. I swear I have no idea who you are and don't recall ever speaking to you. Why not email or PM me rather than post cryptic messages in this thread?
