OGBS, Thumbs Up

by Kevin Nance on 10 November 2012 - 16:11

To me the issue (membership) is simple:

I support with my participation, funding, and volunteer efforts the organization that most closely represents my personal preference of what the German Shepherd Dog should be.  Within the breeding programs of those organizations (USCA and SV) I can, with proper diligence, find the dog that well suits my goals and/or needs.

Others support and believe in what GSDCA and AKC represents; I respect that and have no desire to impinge upon their right to support their organization.

But, I personally have no desire to promote through my membership or intermix with that alternative "vision" for our breed.  And, I certainly would not accept inferior status within an organization (WDA) where what we stand for is subjugated to the whims of a parent organization (GSDCA) that shares little of our breeding criteria.

Best to all,

Kevin

a lot of people in the U.S. don't have a club availble for training at all, much less the luxury of choosing WDA or UScA. Sometimes it's a matter of what's there.

the warts (at the top) are there in both organizations, but personaly, I hope both do well.

Hi, RIk,
Your point is certainly well taken; geography and opportunity factor in to many folks' choice.  And, like you I wish all members of any organization well with their chosen pursuits.  Agility, field sports, etc... all are worthwhile, notable, and hopefully fun for the participants.
Best,
Kevin

The JA has had far reaching consequences which affected a lot of people and the sport in this country. How many registrations were "dummied" up with others peoples names as owners, how many dual sets of paperwork were required to be obtained etc? How many people just got fed up and left the sport?  Ridiculous and to what purpose.

That it is was allowed to happen was a disgrace. The intent was obviously malicious and part and parcel of an agenda that served the interests of a few and primarily the individual for whom it was named and no one else.

My local GSDCA club is very interested in helping us get a WDA club started, some GSDCA members are very interested in getting BH, Obedience and Tracking titles, some could care less. They have proposed that we bring our Euro dogs and show off training and abilities at events, and have offered having 2 seperate rings at local shows (am lines and euro lines)....our local judge is willing to study the FCI breed standard so she can better evaluate them. No its not perfect, but its a huge step in the right direction.

Yes, I know, so many on this board has "issues" with the GSDCA, but I'll take that olive branch!

I guess what I'm trying to say is that, after all is said and done............its for our dogs..........we all need to find a way to get along and play nice
(GSDCA, WDA, UScA and any other dog organization).

This is because before JA the host club that did all the work of putting on a National IPO championship kept all the profit.

The topic here was NOT a "top down" directive. It was voted on and passed by the members by a greater then 2 to 1 margin, not once but TWICE.
You do not have to agree with it but please don't twist facts to make your point.

As was mentioned earlier it's not just GSD owners who are affected by the JA.  Alternate breed people who use USCA for sport get drug into the pissing contest between the WDA and the USCA.  Too date not a single person has given a valid reason as to how myself a Rottie owner, would bring harm to the USCA if I also belonged to the WDA.  Sorry folks I belong to the USCA for trialing purposes not my undying love for the GSD.
