OK, who has actual homeowners coverage with a company that KNOWS they have German Shepherds. This is almost impossible again. My company just dropped me because of the dogs due to "new underwriting policies". I have never had a bite on the property. What companies out there do NOT have their heads up their asses?

This is a more and more common problem. I suggest you contact your state insurance commissioner to file a complaint. IF you have not had previous incidents, they may be able to pressure your current insurer, but perhaps not. I have heard that Travelers' Insurance does not have a policy of discrimination against GSDs or other breeds, but I have never tried them. As it is, I own a large facility and because I own and train GSDs, besides board animals, I can not get liability insurance. If you are involved in Schutzhund, and in certain states, Sportsman Insurance, a company that insures some clubs (but which I consider a rip off company), might insure you. They are not licensed in every state so check that out as well with your state insurance commissioner.

I have been insured by Cascade Mutual and State Farm, both of which have covered my dogs and the rescue dogs that come in, as long as I dont have pitbulls and rotweillers, which is not a problem as they are not even allowed in our county. Try one of those, I pay about $125 extra twice a year for extra liability but that is just to cover me in case. State Farm paid my dr. bills a couple years ago when i was attacked by a rescue dog and had to have rabies treatments, and multiple dr visits. Each state is different. Good luck to you.

I am in Montana and have American Reliable. They come to your house to check it out before approving you. In part because we heat with wood. They saw my dogs, I think I had 5 when we went with them. Now only 3...

Some ins. companies actually give you a discount for owning a dog, They consider it an alarm system. I don't know how they do it or which ones it is that do it, but have had previous puppy buyers tell me about it.

I think the restrictions and/or limitations may vary from state to state. I live in GA and I have Allstate. Knock on wood but I have not had a problem with them. Yes, they are aware that I own 2 GSDs. They do have a "breed restriction" but GSD weren't on it the last time I checked. Good luck to you and with finding a new carrier.

Thanks all. Between the dogs, the pool, the pond, this is a nightmare.

I have Travelers, through Geico. They did not care about any breed other than Pitt Bulls. I had a puppy Rottie here at one time who nipped someone who threatened to sue. Notified my insurance company, People never sued, never heard another word from the company. Rates stayed the same, no problems. Mike

Here in Florida, Citizen's (the insurance of last resort!!!)will insure. I too got dropped from our last company(Southern Indemity)because of the dogs(which we've had for YEARS with them). Then they just moved out of FL completely. You also deal with different "bad dog" lists from county to county...
