The screaming is mostly annoying...

If the dogs are over 16 months, some 2 years, work them more in defence...

I have a female whose fatherline is full German and motherline is full Czech...
When she sees a sleeve, she screams more than she barks...

When we work her in Defence, she has a terrific bark, serious and if the helper moves his right arm even slightly with the whip held in same hand, she goes for that arm...
She done this 3 times already on 2 different helpers...in training and luckily not in the 2 trials she was entered into...

Now our training helpers are more careful not to move that arm...it's difficult because she has IPO1 and we training her for the 2 and 3...

It's a sport and she should not be doing stuff like that...she takes this sport far too seriously...lol...
Has a hard, firm grip but not full and not always calm, tells me the defence drives are there....

She is close on Norbo Ben Ju and her mother is also linebred 3-3 on Titus z PS...
I think this is where it's coming from as her fatherline is known to be compliant...

Obedience is high good and tracking is very good...i.t.o. trial work, points achieved thus far....
Protection scores are high satisfactory but always pronounced rating...
We should get better scores as i'm working on the control issues in the protection work...

Most importantly, I enjoy her and she is great at home...calm relaxed until I say we can train...then she switches on like you cannot believe...
Loves kids and an excellent dog around her territory...

RICO4 , I wouldn't bother looking here in Ireland . I would reccomend Petr at Jinopo , I imported a son of Pluto zPS who is now eight years old & is everything I wanted.

Sorry to dig up such an old topic, but I don't frequent here much these days, and this irritatingly brushed off question is still one I'd like to see answered.
Refering back to page 6...

momosgarage: To Slamdunc & Prager, how do you go about training a dog that is lacking in prey and having higher defense?

Slamdunc: It depends on the dog and what you are training it for.

darylehret: Any example would be fabulous.

Daryl, my response was vague on purpose.  I have answered that exact question on other threads.   That was an example of not wanting to give a detailed answer, not that I didn't have a detailed response.  Provide an example of a dog with low prey / high defense and I'm sure many will give you ways to raise the prey drive.   If I remember correctly I did go through the benefits of prey drive for a working or sport dog and how to bring it out.

Hey, I'm on the same page with you regarding the importance of prey drive, but I'd like to really know more about motivating or working a dog with defense as it's primary drive.  Please post any links you can.
