Question before I answer: Is there any celery handy in this scenario?

by Mosemancr on 03 January 2007 - 00:01

the bad dude would be F-ed if it were my male. The bad dude wouldnt even make it past the first touching me, the guy would first crap his pants Im sure and then get mauled. If it were my female pup, shed bark and bark because shes always in her crate.

I own two GSD bitches, my older one is very car protective and would probably growl, bark and show teeth while in the car and I truely do not knwo whether she would jump out of it to protect me or not. Some days I think she has the courage and some days I dont. My other is only a 7 month old pup who is as bold as brass but is also friendly so am unsure what her reaction would be. I hope I never have to find out. My older bitch is trained for obedience and working trials, my pup not much yet apart from manners.

I know what my male would do, I drive SUV, they travel in the back and never come up front. I was at a light not paying attention and some Yahoo opened the passenger door and was getting in. Before all of this registered in my mind, he was there between me and the guy and using his body to push me against the driver door. He barked, S.O.B. did not leave, he bit. The police spotted him couple blocks away by his torn bloody jacket, higher than a kite. I lock my doors now.

FunkMan, of course there's celery! You're unloading groceries for goodness sake. My 20-month old female would bark her head off, afterall German Shepherd Princesses don't bite icky nasty stinky things. My 3-year old male would bite the bad guy. Hubbies 2 1/2-year old female would bite the bad guy Hubbies 2 1/2-year old male would bit the bad guy if he was jumping hubby. Our 12-month old would bark her head off.

I wish there was a way to test this, I would love to see what my boy would do. I "think" he would bark, then bite, but you never know 100% unless it actually happens....

My dog has earned sch. degrees and proven himself to be hard as nails, but being that he is very protective of myself and the family personally, he would not even need to be given the F** command to instantly stop and take control of the attacker. I know this for a certainty since he has been tested in real time.

Depends on the dog, I suppose. The least reaction would be from my 5 year old female, who would bark, but probably watch from inside the car while I got mugged, and the biggest reaction would be from my 3 year old female, who would no-doubt-about-it take the guy apart, or do her best trying, unless I told her otherwise! She's protected me twice before, so I know how she reacts to that type of situation! I think most dogs would protect their owner in the way which they knew how best to do so, but without really being able to test the theory, there's no way to know for sure, I guess. I can say, I would be more afraid to put my hands inside a little dog's mouth than a big dog's!! LOL Good reading here.

LOL My poor little Chow x Collie mix is a weenie...he'd bark, then run.

Well my 7 year old female was well socialized and did SAR. She is aloof to most people except me. I would have said she might just bark but we did bite work with her 1 year ago. After one tease she bite full and hard on the sleeve. She made it clear she was after the decoy who was challenging her not the sleeve. Saying that I think she would bite but you never know until you test them. I sold my last male, if you raised your voice to me or acted angry he would immediately have a deep rumble in his chest and bite you. I had to be very careful with him and finally sold him to a person needing a serious protection dog due to their job situation. He had rock solid nerves and was great with my family but very protective.
