Bad news for Pitbull owners and most likely bad news for all dog owners regardless of breed.  Not sure how these type incidents end without a complete ban on the Pitbull and that is a slippery slope for all dog owners.

Hey BUBBA I just Googled this story and nowhere do any of the 10 stories say the breed of dog. Everyone just says 4 DOGS. Of course in a few of the comment sections the Anti-pit people started their norm but even a few people pointed out No Breed was mentioned. So where are you getting your info? Please post a credible news source.

Given that three of the four dogs are already in custody, I'd expect that if they were pits or pit-like dogs, that would have been mentioned in ALL the reports. Of the thousands of sites that are carrying this story, aside from the report published on a site called "Heavy" --which has a separate section just for conspiracy stories--the The ONLY descriptions I've been able to locate are that they are "brown dogs", and that three of them, a mother and her two pups, belong to one owner.  As a matter of fact, the most recently-filed story is accompanied by a photo of--wait for it--a snarling GSD.

And, to be more precise, the dogs didn't actually kill the poor fellow--they mauled him, and he died four days later from his injuries. Or because he was an 80 year old, diabetic who'd already had two limbs amputated, so he wasn't in the greatest of physical conditions to begin with, and the massive amount of injuries he received in the mauling pretty much just p

It doesn't matter much to me what breed of dogs were involved--it could have been virtually any breeds or crossbreds of sufficient size to drag an adult man out of a wheelchair.   The dogs in question have apparently been running the neighborhood as a pack for quite some time, according to neighbors of the individual who died.  The owners of the four dogs should be dragged down a gravel road for a while, to see how they like it.  I have no patience for people who don't keep their dogs confined.

The dogs were reported in the news stories as 4 PitBulls last night.

Double Amputee Killed by Pit Bulls in South Carolina

Sorry BUBBA a "CREDIBLE" News source isn't something re-written and "posted12 hours agoby Kevin Genovario" on an internet site called "Heavy.com". Try something like this; http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/sc-amputee-80-dies-attacked-dogs-19178618   Something from The Associated press reported by ABC NEWS.

Since there is NO MENTION of breed in the CREDIBLE news as of yet, you may be right. There may have been 1 or more pits involved but then again maybe not. Before jumping the gun and causing more bad press for the breed why not wait and see what the truth is?

"a spokesman for the Dorchester County Sherrif's Department, the dogs were pit bulls."
So if the dogs were all black would they be killer labs? If they were black and tan they were shepherds? If they were white they were man eating westies? Color does not make a breed.
And what if they are just random Hines 57 mixes? What then? We kill all the mutts?
Punish the deed not the breed.

I don't think breed is relevant, period. A pack of dogs is what's relevant.

I think breed is important and may be relevant.  I doubt four yorkies running in a pack would cause a whole lot of damage.  I am not for breed legislation or condeming all dogs of a particular breed based on these dogs, but accurate and fair reporting is always helpful.  The dogs may very well be mixes, mutts or any large breed.  It would be nice to have an accurate identification and not just "pit bulls."
