There are many "civil" threads on this forum and many members that can "agree to disagree" and still get along.  I am not concerned with "how good a thread this is"  I am concerned with helping Deanna and Prince.  If this thread helps them and they benefit from several of the members posting that is awesome.  If other members get some decent information from the experiences added to this thread that is great.  Yes, this is a good thread; if some of my experience benefits Deanna than I am all for it.  If other members wanted to add their experiences to the thread that would be very interesting.

My second GSD was like Prince et al. He bit me 2 times, my husband 1 time and didn't hesitate to put his teeth on either of us when he felt like it. He was a liability, an accident waiting to happen.  I was experienced with dogs, but had never had a dog like Blitz and had no clue how to deal with him.  Had I received the good advice given in this thread, I think things would have gone better for that dog and me. I think there are more GSD owners with dogs that have behaviorial issues that we may realize.

I would like to see a pedigree of Prince.

[raises hand...]  Sad Smile  The upside of this is we learn the most from the difficult ones.

I can't emphasize enough how important it is for the dog to look to you for direction in a difficult situation. That is the #1 thing I have been working on with my latest rescue. And, of course, doing schutzhund style heeling fits in very nicely with demanding this attention and focus!

I can now get Gracie (who is dog-aggressive) to walk by another dog at close range and not even look at it. She may give it a brief glance, but will turn her focus back to me as soon as I correct her.

When this behaviour is firmly in place, then we will work on doing it off leash while at heel, then at a distance. Then...and only then...I might be able to turn Gracie loose with another dog (and a muzzle!)

The whole idea behind it is YOU are calling the shots and making the decisions, NOT the dog. That's something a dominant dog needs to learn. And yes, Gracie is quite dominant!

WOW A cookie cutter! I am impressed. He and Basco sound like dogs I would like and they are "high line" bred. I would drive across the country to look at one for sale. It is hard enough to find hard natural aggression, in working lines Maybe you guys could start a whole new trend.

Could others that have this type dogs the are bred like Prince post or PM their pedigrees as well, I would love to take a look.

Blitz wasn't closely related to Prince, but he was "high lines" and as aggressive, maybe more so.  If he were still alive I'd be only to happy to gift him to you Wink Smile

Paul,
Unless I am mistaken, Bosco is a working line dog.

I love this "dislike" feature.  I almost feel if I don't get a couple of dislikes on my posts then I haven't said anything worthwhile.  Teeth Smile

Paul, during handling I met a lot of showlines like Prince .... and I still pick my personal "pets" out of them...
but you need to distinguish between insecurity combined with aggression ( not my cup of tea ) and dominance - there are still enough out there.
You usually don´t recognize them, because show folks have to work against this behavior from day one ...
